The Labour peer warned of 'entirely unvalidated experimental treatment' He referred to clinics who have relationships to work with clinics abroad Peer also cited some clinics' adverts on the London Underground By Lizzie Parry Published: 11:53 EST, 10 June 2014 | Updated: 14:35 EST, 10 June 2014 53 shares 11 View comments Lord Robert Winston, an IVF expert, has today warned some clinics are 'exploiting' infertile women A fertility expert has today hit out at the 'exportation' of infertile women by some clinics. IVF pioneer Lord Robert Winston told peers in the House of Lords, that regulation by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority allowed for 'entirely unvalidated experimental treatment'. Giving an example, Lord Winston said many clinics advertise on the London Underground and 'some have relationships to do work overseas in other clinics, which are not allowed by British regulation'. Three-parent embryo technique flouts global ethics says SPUC

Posted: Published on June 4th, 2014

The experimental three-parent embryo technique, 'mitochondrial donation' which the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) announced this week "may be safe for humans", flouts global ethics, says the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC). Paul Tully, SPUC's general secretary, commented: "Human gene manipulation is being sold to a gullible public on a promise of reducing suffering, the same old con-trick that the test-tube baby lobby has been using for decades. "Gene manipulation can only be pursued by breaking several important moral rules. Those rules are not trivial. They are designed to uphold human dignity, the integrity of science and the international community. Human germ-line manipulation and cloning changing the genetic inheritance of future generations - goes against internationally-agreed norms for ethical science", said Mr Tully. "It entails creating human guinea-pigs. As Professor Andy Greenfield, the chairman of the scientific review panel that has approved the techniques, has himself admitted, we won't know the effects until it is actually done on children. To do this, we have to subject children who have not consented and cannot consent to being test subjects. What if they refuse to be subjected to the long-term testing and monitoring necessary (in them andtheir offspring) … Continue reading

Three-Parent Conception Helps Reduce Risk Of Inherited Mitochondrial Disease

Posted: Published on June 4th, 2014

June 3, 2014 Brett Smith for redOrbit.com Your Universe Online To prevent deadly, inherited mitochondrial diseases UK doctors have devised a unique scheme: create a fertilized embryo using eggs from two different women and sperm from one man. According to a new report from the countrys Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority (HFEA), the proposed procedure would be safe and possibly useful, setting the stage for a debate surrounding the ethics of engineering a three-parent child. The US is currently without legislation regulating assisted reproduction or prohibiting the use of mitochondrial replacement techniques for preventing disease. The panel is of the view that the techniques are potentially useful for a specific and defined group of patients: those wishing to have their own genetically related child, but whose offspring are at risk of severe or lethal genetic disease, due to mutations in mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA) which the mother carries, the report said. Mitochondria are essentially the power plants of the cell and diseases affecting these tiny organelles lead to an inadequate amount of energy for normal functioning. Symptoms of mitochondrial disease include muscle weakness, blindness and potentially heart failure. The direction of travel still suggests that it is all safe, but we … Continue reading

Mothers of women with PCOS have increased risk of early death

Posted: Published on May 31st, 2014

PUBLIC RELEASE DATE: 29-May-2014 Contact: Emma Mason wordmason@mac.com European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology Mothers of daughters with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have a significantly increased risk of death, particularly if they also have diabetes, when compared to the general population, according to new research. The Dutch study, published online today (Friday) in Human Reproduction [1], one of the world's leading reproductive medicine journals, compared death rates of mothers and fathers of 958 daughters with PCOS, with the general Dutch population. The researchers found that mothers aged over 60 had a risk of death that was one-and-a-half times greater than the general population. When compared with a control group of women with type 2 diabetes from the general population, diabetic mothers of PCOS daughters had a two-fold increased risk of death. "This is the first study to observe this excess risk of death in mothers of patients who have been diagnosed with PCOS, which is the most common hormone-related disease in women of reproductive age," said Dr Yvonne Louwers, the first author of the study and a resident doctor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Erasmus MC University Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. "Our findings justify the … Continue reading

BabalWaiz "And those who have been given Knowledge(scientists) know that that which has been revealed to you from your Lord is the Truth."--- Qur'an chapter 34:6 "Do they not carefully analyze the Quran. If it had been from other than Allah then surely they would have found many discrepancies therein ."--- Qur'an chapter 4:82 In fact one would continue to wonder how on earth atheists have already began infiltrating our highly religious Ghanaian society, dominated by Islamic and Christian belief. It even appears strange to may Ghanaians to begin to hear about people claiming there is no need to believe in God, the Al-mighty. As I promised readers by a brief comment yesterday to rebut this article by Graham Knight,(click on the link below). [http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/artikel.php?ID=310749&comment=10500929#com], I hurriedly prepared some facts to refute and debunk Graham claims, using the very scientists who he was refereeing to, and who rather confirm the divine missions and prophecies. Please click on this link to pull it out and read it.
