What Is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy? As you age, you may begin to notice that your body and mind do not function as they did when you were in your twenties. Your thinking might have slowed, and you tire more easily. You might have trouble sleeping, performing sexually, or have trouble losing weight and maintaining your strength. Most people think this is natural, that aging always comes with medical symptoms like fatigue, low energy, loss of motivation, depressed mood, anxiety, irritability, loss of memory or loss of concentration. But this isnt true! These symptoms are not just a part of getting older and you dont have to live with these symptoms of aging anymore! For many people, the symptoms of aging are actually caused by declining hormone levels, which begin to drop as early as your thirties. Fortunately, this can be corrected with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, or BHRT. Some of the many benefits of BHRT are listed below. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy will reverse all symptoms of hormone imbalance and return you to your optimal physical, sexual, mental, and emotional health of your 20s and 30s. Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva fails post-fight drug test, stripped of $50,000 bonus

Posted: Published on December 18th, 2013

Despite gaining approval for the use of testosterone replacement therapy, Antonio Silvastill failed his post-fight drug test following a Fight of the Year candidate against Mark Hunt in the headliner of UFC Fight Night 33. MMAjunkie learned of the failure through multiple sources close to the event, which took place Dec. 7 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia, and was regulated by the promotion. UFC officials have since confirmed the failed screen, which indicated an elevated testosterone level. Silva is on a medically approved regimen of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), and had been in compliance with therapeutic guidelines on all pre-fight tests performed prior to the event, a statement issued by a UFC rep read. The results of his test on the day of the event indicated a level of testosterone outside of allowable limit. Silva has been informed that the elevated testosterone level is a violation of the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and his Promotional Agreement with Zuffa. Silva and Hunt fought to a bloody draw and drew ecstatic praise from UFC President Dana White, who gave both of the heavyweights the win portion of their contracted purses and gushed that he would buy them their own private … Continue reading

Hormone therapy (HT) uses one or more female hormones, commonly estrogen and progestin and sometimes testosterone, to treat symptoms of menopause. Symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood swings, sleep disorders, and decreased sexual desire. Hormone therapy comes as a pill, patch, injection, vaginal cream, tablet, or ring. Hormone therapy may help relieve some of the bothersome symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness and pain with intercourse. The hormone estrogen protects against thinning of the bones ( osteoporosis). However, taking hormones may also increase your risk for: You and your doctor should decide whether hormone therapy is right for you. The key is to weigh the risks of taking hormone therapy against the benefits that you might have from taking these hormones. Every woman is different. Your doctor should be aware of your entire medical history before prescribing hormone therapy. At this time, short-term use (up to 5 years) of hormone therapy at the lowest possible dose to treat the symptoms of menopause still appears to be safe for many women. BENEFITS OF HORMONE THERAPY Perhaps the largest benefit women receive from hormone therapy is relief from: Usually, hot flashes and night sweats are less … Continue reading

Endocrinologist: Chael Sonnen’s initial diagnosis of hypogonadism not definitive

Posted: Published on December 12th, 2013

Just prior to his rematch with now-former middleweight champion Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnendramatically declared that he needed to undergo testosterone-replacement therapy, or he would die. A year later he told California regulators that, if he discontinued the treatment, he would have the hormone levels of a 93-year-old. A doctor who recently reviewed Sonnens medical history would agree the fighter now needs to use prescribed testosterone to compete as a professional athlete. But she is uncertain whether he needed it in the first place. In a letter written to Sonnens management, which was forwarded to the Nevada State Athletic Commission with the fighters second request to undergo TRT for UFC 167 this past month, University of Arizona endocrinologist Karen Louise Herbst concluded the fighter meets the criteria for hormone-replacement therapy (TRT). She said he is likely permanently hypogonadal because he has used testosterone since 2008. It may be that suppression of his gonadal axis for that long may never allow a return to normalcy, and discontinuing his testosterone use at this time would be very disruptive to his career, she wrote. But Herbst also expressed reservations about his initial diagnosis of testosterone deficiency. She said that based on initial data, it … Continue reading

Antihormone therapy anastrozole may provide new option for breast cancer prevention

Posted: Published on December 12th, 2013

PUBLIC RELEASE DATE: 12-Dec-2013 Contact: Jeremy Moore jeremy.moore@aacr.org 215-446-7109 American Association for Cancer Research SAN ANTONIO Breast cancer incidence among postmenopausal women at high risk for developing the disease was significantly reduced by the antihormone therapy anastrozole, indicating that the drug may be an effective new option for breast cancer prevention for this group of women, according to initial results of a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial presented here at the 2013 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, held Dec. 10-14. The study is being simultaneously published in the The Lancet. About 80 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States each year have tumors with high levels of hormone receptors. These tumors are fueled by the hormone estrogen. Anastrozole is a drug that prevents the body from making estrogen, and it has been used to treat postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer for more than 10 years. "We initiated the International Breast Cancer Intervention Study II (IBIS-II) Prevention trial to investigate whether anastrozole can be used effectively to prevent breast cancer," said Jack Cuzick, Ph.D., chairman of the IBIS-II Steering Committee. "Our initial results show that for postmenopausal women who do not have breast cancer, but are … Continue reading

Hormone replacement therapy – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hormone replacement therapy refers to any form of hormone therapy wherein the patient, in the course of medical treatment, receives hormones, either to supplement a lack of naturally occurring hormones, or to substitute other hormones for naturally occurring hormones. Common forms of hormone replacement therapy include: Many studies on the effects of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) have been conducted on rats. Predominantly, these studies have looked at the effects of estradiol, a type of estrogen, on rats performances on various tasks. Often, the rodents will be ovariectomized, meaning they have their ovaries removed. This prevents the production and release of estrogen and progesterone, and mimics the occurrence of menopause in human females. Once the ovaries have been removed, researchers will administer estrogen, progesterone, or both to see what the effects are on the rats behaviors. Rats are good animal models because they have similar cognitive deficits to humans as they age, and administering hormone therapy to them is easy.[2] Overall, the results of these studies are non-conclusive. Some studies find impairments due to the HRT, where others find improvements. A common theme that runs through many studies is that rats that are given HRT perform better on tasks activating the … Continue reading

Menopausal Hormone Therapy and Cancer – National Cancer Institute

What is menopausal hormone therapy? Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) is a treatment that doctors may recommend to relieve common symptoms of menopause and to address long-term biological changes, such as bone loss, that result from declining levels of the natural hormones estrogen and progesterone in a womans body during and after the completion of menopause. (More information is available on the MedlinePlus Menopause page.) MHT usually involves treatment with estrogen alone, estrogen plus progesterone, or estrogen plus progestin, which is a synthetic hormone with effects similar to those of progesterone. Women who have had a hysterectomy are generally prescribed estrogen alone. Women who have not had this surgery are prescribed estrogen plus progestin, because estrogen alone is associated with an increased risk of endometrial cancer, whereas research has suggested that estrogen plus progestin may not be. How do the hormones used in MHT differ from the hormones produced by a womans body? The hormones used in MHT come from a variety of plants and animals, or they can be made in a laboratory. The chemical structure of these hormones is similar, although usually not identical, to those of hormones produced by womens bodies. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) … Continue reading
