Hormone Replacement Therapy Greensboro – Coley Cosmetic

Hormone imbalances can create a variety of emotional and physical conditions that can significantly alter a persons overall quality of life. The use of bioidentical hormones in hormone replacement therapy can address these symptoms, instead of merely dealing with each isolated symptom individually. Residents of Greensboro, Burlington, and neighboring communities in North Carolina can rely on the proven skill and experience of double board-certified surgeon Dr. H. Christopher Coley. Bioidentical hormones have a chemical structure that is identical to the hormone naturally produced by the body; that is why we refer to them as natural. Natural hormones may not be patented by drug companies. Synthetic hormones have a structure similar but not exactly the same as a hormone produced by your body. Synthetic hormones act differently and produce different effects than natural or bioidentical hormones. They should not be considered the same. A multitude of studies have demonstrated harmful effects of synthetic hormones whereas the medical literature supports no harmful effects of natural hormones, only beneficial effects. Hormone levels decline in all people as they age. Many physicians assume that this decline is the way it should be. Normal is a relative term. Researchers from around the world have now … Continue reading

Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy (NHRT) is the use of bio-identical hormones (estrogens, progesterone, and/or testosterone) to treat hormone imbalances and deficiencies. While it is natural for our bodies to gradually decrease (or stop) the production of important hormones over time, it doesnt make the symptoms any easier to handle. NHRT works to maintain a proper hormone balance, as well as alleviate the symptoms that are seen with decreased production or elimination, such as hot flashes, fatigue, loss of focus, weight gain, depression, loss of muscle mass, decreased sex drive, poor sleep, anxiety, osteoporosis, and ED (erectile dysfunction). Bio-identical hormones, also known as bio-natural and bio-available hormones, are hormones chemically-identical to the naturally-occurring hormones produced or once produced in the body. The chemical structure, behaviors, and interactions with cell-surface receptors and other hormones are identical to those that naturally occur in the body. Because these hormones are not structurally altered, by law they cannot be patented. Bio-identical hormones are superior tosynthetic hormones, which have beenchemically altered in a labto closely resemble the hormones already naturally-occurring in our bodies. Pharmaceutical companies alter these hormones so that they can obtain patent protection on the product. This allows them to obtain FDA-approval, acquire insurance coverage, and … Continue reading

Hormonal Therapy for Treating Breast Cancer | Breastcancer.org
Posted: Published on October 2nd, 2018
Hormonal therapy medicines treat hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers in two ways: Most of the estrogen in women's bodies is made by the ovaries. Estrogen makes hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers grow. So reducing the amount of estrogen or blocking its action can reduce the risk of early-stage hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers coming back (recurring) after surgery. Hormonal therapy medicines can also be used to help shrink or slow the growth of advanced-stage or metastatic hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers. Hormonal therapy medicines are NOT effective against hormone-receptor-negative breast cancers. There are several types of hormonal therapy medicines, including aromatase inhibitors, selective estrogen receptor modulators, and estrogen receptor downregulators. In some cases, the ovaries and fallopian tubes may be surgically removed to treat hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer or as a preventive measure for women at very high risk of breast cancer. The ovaries also may be shut down temporarily using medication. It's important to know that hormonal therapy IS NOT hormone replacement therapy (HRT). HRT isn't used to treat breast cancer. HRT is taken by some women to treat troublesome menopausal side effects such as hot flashes and mood swings. HRT is used to raise estrogen levels that drop after menopause. HRT contains estrogen and can contain progesterone … Continue reading

The Pros and Cons of Hormone Therapy – Healthy Women
Posted: Published on August 25th, 2018
The issue of hormone therapy to treat menopausal symptoms used to be a simple one. You had hot flashes, sleep disturbances, vaginal changesyou took hormones. Worried about your bones and heartyou took hormones. All that changed, of course, in the summer of 2002 with the announcement of the results of part of the Women's Health Initiative (WHI), the first-ever, long-term study of the effects of hormone therapy (HT) on postmenopausal women. One of the study's main goals was to investigate whether using estrogen (Premarin) or estrogen plus progestin (Prempro) as part of a hormone therapy regimen could prevent coronary heart disease in healthy women between the ages of 50 to 79. The investigators chose these two hormone products to study, because at the time they were the most-used form of hormone therapy. Researchers abruptly ended the Prempro arm three years early, because initial results showed an increased risk of breast cancer, heart disease, blood clots in the lungs and stroke in women taking hormone therapy. You know what happened nextmillions of women panicked, ditched their hormone therapy and frantically searched for options. A couple of years later, when the estrogen-only (Premarin) arm of the WHI found an increased incidence of … Continue reading

Clinical scientific studies show HRT is not only effective, but when monitored, is safe for treating symptoms for both women and men. In addition, mounting evidence continues to show it is significantly life extending. Heres a simple explanation: as you age, your body may slow production of certain hormones. Hormone Replacement Therapy essentially makes up what your body no longer makes. Adding the hormones back allows key functions to continue versus abate. The Optimal Health Associates approach to Hormone Replacement Therapy is simple due to our vast experience. We determine the symptoms and correlate them to a thorough medical and laboratory evaluation. Each patient will then work with our team to find out exactly what is causing your symptoms. You will work with your provider to design a plan uniquely formulated to meet your specific needs. Hormones are chemicals made by the glands that act to control certain actions of cells and organs. In essence, hormones regulate your body's functions and keep things running smoothly. However, these hormones can become imbalanced or deficient in a condition known as hormone imbalance. Hormone replacement therapy is one type of treatment designed to correct this problem, but not all forms are created equally. … Continue reading
