Posted: Published on May 8th, 2017

Late last week, news broke that a womens CSGO tournament hosted by ESL rejected a team of trans players because they couldnt provide official documentation stating they were female. The incident was eye-opening for everybody involved. Sly Buehl Rigilio, a transgender player who lives in Sicily, Italy, tried to register her team in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 5on5 Female Open Summer 2017, a tournament hosted by ESL and organized by Munich Finest Gaming. As first reported by BuzzFeed, however, Rigilios dreams of competitive glory were cut short by a very rude awakening. Upon submitting her request to ESL, she received the following response: No males are allowed. Please take care fake your gender can be penalized. Surprised and more than a little upset that her and her team had apparently been rejected based on their appearances, Rigilio reached out to Munich Finest Gaming, who said theyd need to see passports that designated Rigilio and her teammates as female. They also said they couldnt understand why she was so enraged about the whole thing. ESL head of communications Anna Rozwandowicz added that the two companies had to do it that way in order to comply with German law. I completely understand … Continue reading

I was scared, confused, and inarticulate. Well figure it out, she said. After the shock subsided, my mom went to the library, a musty, quiet safe haven. She was looking for a book about people like me. That day, my mom checked out a memoir called Just Add Hormones and the 1999 Oscar-winning film Boys Dont Cry, the only relevant movie she could find in the librarys extensive DVD section. Texas school officials don’t understand transgender athletes – The … – Washington Post

Posted: Published on May 5th, 2017

By Katelyn Burns By Katelyn Burns May 4 Katelyn Burns is an essayist and a trans woman. She lives in Maine with her two young children. Last week, a Texas court dismissed a lawsuit that sought to ban Texas transgender high school wrestler Mack Beggs from wrestling in the girls division. Beggs was assigned female at birth and has been taking testosterone to raise his hormone levels to that of any other teenage boy as part of his medical transition. Since the University Interscholastic League has explicitly stated that Texas athletes must only compete in the gender divisions of their birth certificates, Beggs wrestles against girls and dominates his competitions. The policy in Texas is unfair to cisgender (non-trans) female athletes, who are forced to wrestle against boys like Beggs, as well as to transgender girls who were assigned male at birth but are on hormone replacement therapy. Texass policy, along with the six other states that define high school athletic gender divisions according to the gender on birth certificates, has no basis in scientific reality when it comes to how hormones work. The difference in musculature between men and women comes entirely from the difference in how efficiently our … Continue reading

"Healthcare is a human right, and no one should be denied access to care because of a preexisting condition or because a program like Planned Parenthood does not fit the ideology of one political party. Now more than ever, its time to buckle down and keep fighting to protect the healthcare that the LGBTQ community deserves. With GLAAD's help, we rounded up four potential consequences for LGBTQ people should the Senate pass the same health bill. Standard current treatment Over the past decade, there has been much controversy about the use of HRT after the publication of the Womens Health Initiative (WHI) and Million Women studies. Recent re-analysis of the WHI data, along with results from other studies, has clarified the benefits and risks of HRT for specific populations.1 It is now known that low-dose HRT has a better safety profile when initiated within 10 years of the menopause and before the age of 60.1,2 Starting HRT around the time of the menopause may even reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline.1 Starting HRT 10 or more years after the last natural period is associated with increased risks.1 Women notice an improvement in their hot flushes within four weeks of starting HRT, with maximum benefits achieved by three months.3 Oestrogen-only replacement therapy should only be used in women who have had a hysterectomy.
