Dolce & Gabbana slam boycott campaign over IVF and adoption row as ‘medieval’

Posted: Published on March 18th, 2015

Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce have slammed calls for a boycott on their brand as "medieval". The designers came under fire after a controversial interview where they were quoted as calling IVF babies "synthetic". Elton John, whose two sons Zachary, five, and Elijah, two, with husband David Furnish were conceived through IVF treatment, led calls to boycott the brand and was backed by stars including Ricky Martin and Courtney Love. Hitting back, Gabbana said: "Boycott Dolce & Gabbana for what? They don't think like you? This is correct? This is not correct. We are in 2015. This is like medieval. It's not correct." He continued: "I believe in the traditional family. It is impossible to change my culture for something different. It's me... I respect all the world, all the culture." During a joint interview with CNN, Gabbana's design partner and former lover Dolce was asked if he supported having children through IVF. He replied to say: "Yeah, I don't have anything bad, because the beauty of the world is freedom... "We love gay couple. We are gay. We love gay couple. We love gay adoption. We love everything. It's just an express of my private point of view." Dolce … Continue reading

Gabbana hits back at ‘fascist’ and ‘ignorant’ Elton John

Posted: Published on March 18th, 2015

STEFANO Gabbana has slammed Sir Elton John as a "fascist" and "ignorant" after the singer encouraged people to boycott Dolce and Gabbana over their opinions on gay adoption and children born through IVF. The 52-year-old designer - who runs fashion house Dolce and Gabbana with business partner Domenico Dolce - admitted he "didn't expect" such a backlash after the pair branded kids conceived through fertility treatment "synthetic" and admitted they "opposed gay adoptions". Stefano also hit out at Elton - whose two sons Zachary, five, and Elijah, two, with husband David Furnish were conceived through IVF treatment - for "attacking" the pair, who were in a relationship for 25 years until 2005, for having a "different opinion" to him. Speaking in Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, he said: "I didn't expect this. I didn't expect this, coming from someone whom I considered, and I stress 'considered,' an intelligent person like Elton John. "I mean, you preach understanding, tolerance and then you attack others? Only because someone has a different opinion? Is this a democratic or enlightened way of thinking? This is ignorance, because he ignores the fact that others might have a different opinion and that theirs is as … Continue reading

‘Never give up’ says ‘miracle’ mum-of-three denied IVF treatment

Posted: Published on March 14th, 2015

MIRACLES: Lee and Jemma Summerfield with six-year-old twins Lola and Tilly and three-month-old Noah. A COUPLE who were once denied IVF treatment on the NHS will be having a special Mother's Day celebration this year after the arrival of their third 'miracle' baby. Lee and Jemma Summerfield had tried for a family for nearly two years before seeking help from a fertility clinic. But they were faced with another dilemma when they were told they were not eligible for free treatment because of where they lived. So the couple chose to re-mortgage their house to raise funds for the procedure, which costs around 5,000 a time. After two failed attempts, Jemma finally became pregnant with twins Lola and Tilly. And three has proved to be a lucky number for the family with the arrival of their baby boy Noah. Store manager Lee, aged 39, of Walsingham Gardens, Westbury Park, said: "It is a dream come true when I look at our little family. Looking back, I never imagined we would end up with three children." The now-defunct NHS North Staffordshire was one of the few Primary Care Trusts in the country which did not fund at least one cycle of … Continue reading

They are the miracle triplets - born two years apart. Ethan, Isabel and Arthur Preston were all conceived at the same time. But Isabel and Arthur were born in December - two years and five days after Ethan. Parents Katie and Matthew are looking forward to celebrating their first Mother's Day with the trio on Sunday. All three siblings were conceived while the couple, from Castle Vale, underwent IVF treatment at Midland Fertility. "They are our three little miracles," said Katie, a cashier at William Hill. "December is a busy time for the Preston family now - but we wouldn't have it any other way. "They keep me busy, and are certainly a handful. But we feel complete and adore our triplets. Katie and Matthew, both 28, tried for a family for five years before discovering they only had a one per cent chance of conceiving as Matthew has a low sperm count. "I would see a woman with a pram in the street and would go home and cry," admits Katie. "Many of my family and friends were having families, and we just thought it would never happen for us.
