SammyJo Wilkinsin talks at the Houston Stem Cell Summit – Video

SammyJo Wilkinsin talks at the Houston Stem Cell Summit I was on a panel of 4 patients, all treated with our own adult stem cells. Each of us had great restorative effects for serious ailments like multiple sclerosis, arthritis, or orthopedic conditions. Now the FDA made an overzealous ruling our own stem cells are a drug, if expanded to reach a therapeutic dose. Now this therapy is no longer available in the US as of the start of 2013. So be cautious when evaluating clinics that offer a low-dose therapy for a serious condition like MS. For comparison, I received 600 million of my own adipose-derived autologous mesenchymal stem cells. The FDA is forcing patients into medical tourism to achieve effective therapy. But stay tuned, PatientsForStemCells.com is a group of patients who are fighting for every sick person's right to use their own stem cells for repair, restoration and recovery from grave illnesses, many of which have no other effective treatment. Dedifferentiation Turning Back the Cellular Clock

Posted: Published on January 11th, 2013

"But a civilized man is better off than the savage in this respect. He can go up against gravitation in a balloon, and why should he not hope that ultimately he may be able to stop or accelerate his drift along the Time-Dimension, or even turn about and travel the other way?" in "The Time Machine" by Herbert George Wells, 1895.Thanks to Albert Einstein's work on special relativity in the early 1900s, physicists have accepted time as the fourth dimension along with the three dimensions of space. However, even before Einstein, H.G. Wells in "The Time Machine" had alluded to the concept of time as a separate dimension. This classic along with numerous examples in history point to the centuries-old human fascination and yearning for time travel. Theoretical physicists have pored over tons of data and complicated equations, talked about wormholes and black holes hoping to get clues on this elusive concept. And in a way, we are all time travelers, hurtling down this fourth dimension super-highway.However, we are forced to travel in a unidirectional manner and only at a speed dictated by time. Hence, it is safe to say that our dream of "true" time travel is still unfulfilled … Continue reading

3D scaffolds 'support regeneration of complex tissues from stem cells'

Posted: Published on January 11th, 2013

Washington, January 11 (ANI): Researchers have come up with an innovative method for creating a stretched polymer scaffold that can support complex tissue architectures. Stem cells can be grown on biocompatible scaffolds to form complex tissues like bone, cartilage, and muscle for repair and regeneration of damaged or diseased tissue. However, to function properly, the cells must often grow in a specific pattern or alignment. Zu-yong Wang and a team of researchers from National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, KK Women's and Children's Hospital, and Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, in Singapore, developed a reproducible method that involves stretching a polymer thin film to produce scaffolds that can support the growth of human mesenchymal stem cells. The stretching process creates orientated 3-dimensional micro-grooves on the surface of the films, and these formations promote consistent alignment and elongation of stem cells as they grow and develop into tissues on and around the resorbable scaffold. "The researchers developed a very elegant method to promote cell behaviour," John Jansen, Methods Co-Editor-in-Chief and Professor and Chairman, Department of Biomaterials, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center, The Netherlands, said. The study has been published in the journal Tissue Engineering. (ANI) See the original post here: 3D … Continue reading

3-D biomimetic scaffolds support regeneration of complex tissues from stem cells

Research and Markets: Cell Therapy – Technologies, Markets and Companies – 2013 Report

Posted: Published on January 10th, 2013

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/4gllbg/cell_therapy) has announced the addition of Jain PharmaBiotech's new report "Cell Therapy - Technologies, Markets and Companies" to their offering. This report describes and evaluates cell therapy technologies and methods, which have already started to play an important role in the practice of medicine. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is replacing the old fashioned bone marrow transplants. Role of cells in drug discovery is also described. Cell therapy is bound to become a part of medical practice. Stem cells are discussed in detail in one chapter. Some light is thrown on the current controversy of embryonic sources of stem cells and comparison with adult sources. Other sources of stem cells such as the placenta, cord blood and fat removed by liposuction are also discussed. Stem cells can also be genetically modified prior to transplantation. Cell therapy technologies overlap with those of gene therapy, cancer vaccines, drug delivery, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Pharmaceutical applications of stem cells including those in drug discovery are also described. Various types of cells used, methods of preparation and culture, encapsulation and genetic engineering of cells are discussed. Sources of cells, both human and animal (xenotransplantation) are discussed. Methods of delivery … Continue reading

New protein to treat damaged bones uncovered

Posted: Published on January 10th, 2013

Jan. 9, 2013 Korean researchers believe that the 'DJ-1 protein' can be used to promote the formation of new bone tissue in patients suffering from osteoporosis by improving communication between bone making cells (osteoblasts) and blood vessel (endothelial) cells. The research was published in Nature Communications. Professor Pann-Gill Suh and Dr. Jung-Min Kim at the School of Nano-Bioscience and Chemical Engineering, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) identified DJ-1 as a novel mediator of the cross-talk between osteoblasts and endothelial cells by screening molecules secreted from as yet undifferentiated human skeletal cells. These skeletal cells, also known as mesenchymal stem cells, have the ability to develop into fully fledged bone cells (osteoblasts). The researchers showed that DJ-1 stimulates the differentiation of the yet undifferentiated skeletal cells into bone cells by activating fibroblasts, cells which in turn ensure connective tissue growth. Working with rodents, they were able to uncover previously undefined extracellular roles of DJ-1, to promote angiogenesis and osteogenesis, suggesting DJ-1 may have therapeutic potential to stimulate bone regeneration. Regenerative medicine: Clinical trials launched for the treatment of delayed union fractures

Posted: Published on January 10th, 2013

Public release date: 9-Jan-2013 [ | E-mail | Share ] Contact: Pierre LAYROLLE pierre.layrolle@inserm.fr 33-027-264-1143 INSERM (Institut national de la sant et de la recherche mdicale) The clinical trials aim to repair bones using adult stem cells combined with biomaterials. It will be conducted in France in the Crteil University Hospital Centre and the Regional University Hospital Centre in Tours, in collaboration with the French Blood Establishment. The REBORNE project began three years ago and its originality lies in using mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), found in bone marrow, to help heal fractures. Adult stem cells are amplified in culture, then are associated with biomaterial before being implanted on the fracture. Promising pre-clinical trials have now paved the way for the launch of these new clinical trials. Following trauma (fall or road accident), there is a high incidence of delayed union or non-union in tibia, femur or humerus bones requiring a surgical apposition of an autologous bone graft (patient's own bone). However, the bone graft available is limited and complications are often observed at the second surgical site. The partners of the European project REBORNE propose an alternative treatment using autologous mesenchymal stem cells associated with a synthetic bone substitute. Thanks … Continue reading

Cost of Stem Cell Therapy | Malaysia Stem Cell Therapy Cost stemcellmalaysia.com Stem cell therapy is not a cheap medical treatment. In fact, it is very expensive treatment to the majority of people. The high price of stem cell therapy becomes not only a deterrent to the majority but also creates room for non-medical sector to fill the void of demands for disease treatment. This video addresses the issues surrounding the cost of stem cell therapy, particularly in Malaysia.
