Anna Hazare Gives Her Silent Treatment, Kiran Bedi Says She Will Explain

Posted: Published on January 19th, 2015

New Delhi: Kiran Bedi today said she would meet Anna Hazare and explain her decision to join politics. The 77-year-old Gandhian has refused to take Ms Bedi's calls, apparently upset that she did not consult him before joining the BJP. "I am not upset because Anna does not know why I have taken on this mantle," Kiran Bedi told NDTV in an exclusive interview, pointing at her saffron scarf with the BJP's lotus symbol. "The moment Anna knows that this for me is supreme giving.., the ultimate giving. It was time to give myself ultimately for India first and Delhi," she said. She added that she planned to meet Anna as soon as possible. "When I can go is a matter of time. First things first," she said, indicating that she wanted to finish with her campaign for the February 7 Delhi assembly polls before making that trip to Anna's hometown Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra. Sources say Anna Hazare has not taken Kiran Bedi's calls since Thursday, when she joined the BJP, as he feels "hurt." Ms Bedi has repeatedly called Mr Hazare repeatedly on the weekend, sources said. "I called Anna-ji on the telephone; sometimes he was sleeping and … Continue reading

Doctor quizzed on fallopian clip

Posted: Published on January 19th, 2015

A woman has described waking up from an operation to find both her fallopian tubes had been clipped without her consent. Lorna McKeogh had agreed to the clipping of one tube but, after the operation, was told by consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Declan Egan: What did you want me to do, stitch it back up, wake you up, and ask for your permission? Dr Egan, of Dangan, Co Galway, faces one allegation of poor professional performance at a Medical Council fitness-to-practice inquiry in relation to the procedure he carried out on Ms McKeogh on June 2, 2010, at University College Hospital Galway. He denies the allegation and his barrister said Dr Egan believed this was the best course of treatment for Ms McKeogh. Ms McKeogh told the inquiry she was referred for a laproscopy after she had a number of miscarriages. It was found that she had a hydrosalpinx (a collection of fluid) of her right fallopian tube. Since this was toxic to the embryo, Ms McKeogh was told the tube may have to be clipped to allow her to bear an embryo to full term. She said she was referred to Dr Egan because her own obstetrician could not … Continue reading

Dr. Andres R. Sanchez Brings a Less Invasive Laser Gum Disease Procedure to his Eden Prairie, MN Practice

Posted: Published on January 17th, 2015

Eden Prairie, MN (PRWEB) January 16, 2015 Leading periodontist, Dr. Andres R. Sanchez now offers Eden Prairie, MN residents who suffer from gum disease a minimally invasive treatment option. Traditional gum surgery involves cutting and stitching, but the LANAP protocol allows Dr. Sanchez to effectively destroy harmful bacteria and infection through a gentle laser process. There are many potential risk factors to gum disease, and although the primary cause is bacterial dental plaque, brushing, flossing and regular dental cleanings are not always enough. Hormone fluctuations, tobacco use, genetics and aggressive brushing can raise the likelihood of infections below the gum line. One of the first indicators is redness, tenderness or bleeding in the gums. At this point, it is critical for individuals in Eden Prairie to contact a periodontist for treatment to prevent gum disease from advancing and causing permanent damage. With traditional gum surgery the gums are typically cut and peeled away from the roots of the teeth so the infected area can be accessed. Bacteria is cleaned from the gums and surrounding tissue, and the calcified tartar buildup is scraped from the roots. Afterward, the gums are stitched in place. The gums do not always fully reattach, and … Continue reading

Pathophysiology of multiple sclerosis – Wikipedia, the …

Posted: Published on January 12th, 2015

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition where the CNS of a person present a special kind of distributed lesions (sclerosis) [1] whose pathophysiology is complex and still under investigation. It is considered a pathological entity by some authors[2] and a clinical entity by some others.[3] From a pathological point of view it can be classified as an encephalomyelitis, and sometimes is known as encephalomyelitis disseminata. In MS, an unknown underlying condition causes damage in two phases. First some MRI-abnormal areas with hidden damage appear in the brain and spine (NAWM, NAGM, DAWM), followed later by leaks in the bloodbrain barrier where immune cells infiltrate causing the known demyelination[4] and axon destruction.[5] Some clusters of activated microglia, transection of axons and myelin degeneration is present before the BBB breaks down and the inmune attack begins[6][7][8] MS is mainly a white matter disease, and lesions appear mainly in a peri-ventricular distribution (lesions clustered around the ventricles of the brain), but apart from the usually known white matter demyelination, also the cortex and deep gray matter (GM) nuclei are affected, together with diffuse injury of the normal-appearing white matter.[9] MS is active even during remission periods.[10] GM atrophy is independent of the MS … Continue reading

Experimental MS treatment halts disease in its tracks

Originally published January 11, 2015 at 12:13 AM | Page modified January 11, 2015 at 1:55 PM Seven years ago, Mike Kearny of Seattle was so sick and weak from multiple sclerosis, he had to use the handrail to pull himself up the stairs of his Wallingford neighborhood home. Daily injections of powerful drugs hadnt slowed the neurodegenerative disease; tests showed growing numbers of lesions in his brain. The once-active cyclist and climber started missing work as a cardiac catheter lab nurse, and worse activities with his wife, Casey Castaneda, and his boys, Owen, then 2, and Jack, 7. I was not doing well, recalled Kearny, now 47, who was first diagnosed in 2006. So when local doctors offered a gamble on an experimental treatment that aimed to use high-dose chemotherapy and stem-cell transplants to stop multiple sclerosis (MS), Kearny took the chance. Five years later, he says joining the small-but-promising HALT-MS clinical trial led by Seattle researchers was the best bet he ever made. The opportunity I was given now feels like a gift, said Kearny, who was treated in December 2009 and has seen no progress of the disease since. It stopped it in its tracks, he added. … Continue reading
