Myocardial Infarction: Exposure to Air Pollutants Can Lead to This Debilitating Condition – India.com
Posted: Published on February 19th, 2020
Are you living in an area where the air pollution level is too much? If yes, you may be at an increased risk of developing myocardial infarction which is also called a heart attack. A recent study published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives has revealed that exposure to an elevated level of ultrafine particles (particles that are 100 nanometers or smaller in size) can make you susceptible to a heart attack. Migraine Headache and Risk for Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Events – The Cardiology Advisor
Posted: Published on February 19th, 2020
Migraine headache, particularly migraine with aura, is associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular events, including ischemic stroke. In light of the high prevalence of migraine headache, this association should be further investigated, according to a review published in the Journal of the American Heart Association. Other than the characteristic headache, migraine may be associated with transient focal neurology symptoms (eg, aura) that usually persist for less than an hour Continue reading

Survivors in Canada are Taking Steps to Reduce the Risk of Another Heart Attack. But is it Enough? – Yahoo Finance
Posted: Published on February 6th, 2020
New Amgen Survey Shows Heart Attack Survivors in Canada Do Not Know Their Cholesterol Level or What It Should Be MISSISSAUGA, ON , Feb. 6, 2020 /CNW/ - In recognition of February as Heart Month, Amgen Canada ("Amgen") today released Canadian findings as part of a global survey1 that evaluated worldwide heart attack survivors' perceptions and awareness of the connection between cholesterol and cardiovascular (CV) events revealing that 56 per cent of respondents in Canada do not consider high cholesterol to be a chronic condition requiring long-term management and care.2 Amgen (CNW Group/Amgen Canada) Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), or "bad" cholesterol, is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for heart attack.3 Globally more than 40% of patients who have had a CV event, like a heart attack, will go on to have another within two years.4 The survey's findings show that while heart attack survivors are proactively trying to improve their cardiovascular health, they may not fully understand the importance of lowering high LDL-C to reduce their risk of another heart attack: "Cardiovascular disease remains one of the most significant health challenges in Canada where an estimated 63,200 adults will experience a first heart attack this year7," said Ponda Motsepe-Ditshego, Executive Medical Director at Amgen Canada."This survey shows patients want to reduce their risk of another heart attack, but are unsure about the best actions to take. Effect of Low-Dose Nebivolol in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction: A Multi-Center Observational Study – DocWire News
Posted: Published on February 6th, 2020
The optimal dose of beta blockers after acutemyocardial infarction(MI) remains uncertain. We evaluated the effectiveness of low-dose nebivolol, a beta1 blocker and a vasodilator, in patients with acute MI. A total of 625 patients with acute MI from 14 teaching hospitals in Korea were divided into 2 groups according to the dose of nebivolol (nebistol, Elyson Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Seoul, Korea): low-dose group (1.25 mg daily, n=219) and usual- to high-dose group (2.5 mg daily, n=406) Continue reading
