Early MI Linked to High Recurrent Events, Mortality – Medscape

Posted: Published on October 9th, 2019

Even with coronary revascularization and secondary prevention, individuals with premature coronary artery disease (CAD) are at high risk for recurrent events and death, with much of the risk attributable to poor risk-factor control. The 880 patients prospectively studied in this trial, published online in the October15 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, were younger than 45 years at the time of their first hospital admission for a coronary event. Gilles Montalescot (Source: Fredy Perojo/Medscape) "This population shows us an accelerated story of atherothrombosis with devastating medical and social complications," Gilles Montalescot, MD, PhD, Sorbonne Universit and Hpital Piti-Salptrire, Paris, told theheart.org| Medscape Cardiology Continue reading

Quantitative Flow Ratio guided Residual Functional SYNTAX Score for Risk Assessment in Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction…

Posted: Published on October 9th, 2019

AIMS: This study was aimed at investigating the prognostic ability of quantitative flow ratio (QFR) guided residual functional SYNTAX score (Q-rFSS) and functional incomplete revascularization (IR) in patients with ST-segment elevationmyocardial infarction(STEMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). A total of consecutive 354 STEMI patients was included. Q-rFSS was defined as residual SYNTAX score (rSS) measured in vessels with QFR 0.8 Continue reading

Left Main Treated With PCI or CABG Have Similar Outcomes at Five Years – Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology

Posted: Published on October 9th, 2019

October 3, 2019 Five-year data from the EXCEL Trial showed patients with left main coronary disease treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using the Xience stent or coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG), had similar similar long-term, composite outcomes at five years. Five-year findings were reported at the 2019 Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium. The study was also published simultaneously in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).[1] In patients with left main coronary artery disease and low or intermediate coronary disease complexity, we found no significant difference between PCI and CABG with respect to the composite rate of death, stroke, or myocardial infarction at five years, said lead investigator Gregg W.
