COVID-19 vaccination reduces infection-related myocardial infarction and stroke risk – Hospital Healthcare Europe

Posted: Published on August 10th, 2022

COVID-19 vaccination provides individuals with a reduced risk of experiencing an acute myocardial infarction or ischaemic stroke after becoming infected with the virus according to the findings of a study by Korean researchers. It has now become recognised that following an acute infection with COVID-19, beyond the first 30 days, individuals with COVID-19 have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and which includes cerebrovascular disorders, dysrhythmias, ischaemic and non-ischaemic heart disease, pericarditis, myocarditis, heart failure and thromboembolic disease. While it is clear that a COVID-19 vaccination is safe and offers protection against severe COVID-19, hospitalisation and death against all current variants of concern, what is less clear is whether vaccination is able to reduce the post-infection cardiovascular sequelae Continue reading

Effect of Ringer Acetate vs. 4 percent Albumin Solution on Major Adverse Events in Patients Having Cardiac Surgery – Physician’s Weekly

Posted: Published on August 10th, 2022

For a study, researchers sought to examine whether using 4% albumin solution instead of Ringer acetate as the cardiopulmonary bypass prime solution and the perioperative intravenous volume replacement solution lowered the incidence of significant perioperative and postoperative complications in patients having cardiac surgery. Patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic, mitral, or tricuspid valve surgery, ascending aorta surgery without hypothermic circulatory arrest, and/or the maze procedure were randomly assigned to 2 study groups in a randomized, double-blind, single-center clinical trial from 2017 to 2020 at a tertiary university hospital (the last follow-up was April 13, 2020). Early LV Recovery After TAVR Tied to 5-Year Mortality – Medscape

Posted: Published on August 10th, 2022

Early improvement of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is associated with improved all-cause and cardiac death at 5 years in patients with severe aortic stenosis and LVEF less than 50%, new research shows. Further analyses also revealed a significant interaction by sex, with the mortality benefit largely in women Continue reading
