The ladies used four, second-half goals to roll to a 5-0 victory while the guys had one goal in each half for a 2-0 win. By Dahl Erickson on Apr 4, 2012 in Lincoln County, News, Wyoming According to the Research &Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, the Cowboy States unemployment numbers continue to fall with only 5.4 percent of residents unemployed for the month of February 2012. This news may be good for Wyoming in general, but Lincoln County continues to languish as the numbers prove that the county leads Wyoming in unemployment again at 8.8 percent. This is down three-tenths of one percent from January, but for the first time in more than two years, Lincoln Countys numbers now mirror the national average. Lincoln County is now trailing the falling national number of 8.7 percent unemployment. The positive spin indicates that the county numbers are down to 8.8 percent from 10.1 percent in February of 2011. Sublette County continues to sport states lowest unemployment numbers with just 3.3 percent, followed by Campbell County and Albany Counties with 4.5 and 4.6 percent respectively. In other neighboring counties, Teton County was reported with 6.6 percent unemployment while Uinta is at 5.8 percent. In February of 2011, Lincoln County reported 837 residents unemployed. I came across an article the other day with a warning for those who order prescription medication online. Apparently, buying prescription drugs on the Internet can save both time and money, but there is a potential risk that you may not consider. Carnegie Mellon University, a private, internationally ranked research university, conducted a study and found that when searching for drug information, they were redirected to questionable and/ or illicit pharmacies almost a third of the time. Using estimates of the popularity of drug-related search terms and the payment-processing websites used by pharmacies, Carnegie Mellon researchers report that search-engine manipulation is considerably more efficient than email spam. According to SELF magazine, 25 percent of medication errors are caused by mix-ups with drugs that have similar names. Safe surfing is certainly the lesson here if you want to avoid contaminated, counterfeit or dangerous medications. Tuesday, April 3 the library will host a craft day from 1-3 p.m. Kids of all ages can come do fun spring crafts, said Draney. Well be making cookie bugs, egg animals and windsocks. Wednesday, April 4 the library will host a movie day, featuring Puss in Boots at 10 a.m. and Hugo at 1 p.m. Popcorn will be served with each movie. Thursday, April 5 the library is holding a teen pizza party from 2-3 p.m. Kids ages 12 and up can come play the Wii and board games and make mini pizzas, said Draney. In addition to the spring break activity schedule at the library, the Alpine Branch Library will continue with its regular story time schedule during the month of April. Story time is held on Tuesdays from 10-11 a.m. for children ages three to five. Two big changes taking place this year are date and location. The date for this years event is June 22-24, the weekend following the traditional date of Fathers Day weekend. With the change in date also comes the change in location and the return of the event to within the Town of Alpine. Mountain Days will take place in the Alpine Civic Center and the adjoining Marge Grover Memorial Park. The Pioneer Village will be located with the Morning Star Indian Dancers nearby. Area artists and crafters and food vendors are invited and encouraged to participate in the weekends festivities. By Dahl Erickson on Mar 28, 2012 in Featured, Lincoln County, News An accident seven miles east of Kemmerer killed two people and hospitalized two children on the afternoon of March 23. According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), Verna P. Prater, 60, of Kemmerer was westbound on US Higway 30 when for unknown reasons, her vehicle went off the right side of the roadway where it struck a delineator post. The WHP report then stated that Prater then over steered the vehicle to the left which caused the vehicle to come back onto the highway and cross the center line going in the eastbound lane of travel. Once in the eastbound lane, it struck the other vehicle head-on. Prater, a resident of Kemmerer, was driving a 2000 Honda Civic. She was declared dead at the scene. Kathleen Kitty Collings, a resident of Afton, was driving a 2011 Chevy HHR. She was declared dead aboard Life Flight en route to Salt Lake City just under six hours after the accident.
