A Phase 2 clinical study of AB-1005 (AAV2-GDNF), an experimental gene therapy AskBio is developing for Parkinsons disease, is recruiting patients who are experiencing motor fluctuations despite being on a stable medication regimen for at least a month. Called REGENERATE-PD (NCT06285643), the study aims to enroll 87 adults with moderate Parkinsons, ages 45 to 75, who will be randomly assigned to receive a single dose of AB-1005 injected directly into both sides of the putamen a brain region involved in motor control or a sham (control) surgical procedure. New Study Suggests Anxiety May Double The Risk Of Parkinson’s Disease In People Over 50 – NewsX

A new study has suggested that people over 50 who experience worry may be up to twice as likely to acquire Parkinsons disease than their anxiety-free counterparts. The British Journal of General Practice released the study, which examined primary care data from the country. Researchers compared 109,435 adults 50 years of age and older who had been diagnosed with anxiety between 2008 and 2018 to a control group consisting of 987,691 individuals who were anxiety-free. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has rejected for the second time AbbVies application of ABBV-951 (foscarbidopa/foslevodopa) for treating motor fluctuations in adults with advanced Parkinsons disease. In a complete response letter to AbbVie, the FDA said the decision is based on observations from an inspection at one of the companys third-party manufacturing facilities, although the inspection didnt involve ABBV-951. A man living with Parkinson's in Scotland has called a procedure to cure his tremors a miracle after becoming the first person in the UK to receive the treatment as part of a National Health Service clinical trial. The successful treatment gives other Parkinson's patients hope of regaining their independence after it was performed in Scotland for the first time.
