Museum of the Oregon Territory honors icons of pharmacy: The Kaegi Brothers

The Clackamas County Historical Society is pleased to announce The Antique Pharmacy, a free educational forum on September 15th from 1-2 p.m. at the Museum of the Oregon Territory. The program honors the contributions of John Kaegi and Richard Kaegi, OSU Icons of Pharmacy, and highlights the museums re-dedicated Kaegi Antique Pharmacy Exhibit. The public and Oregons pharmacy professionals have been invited to gather to explore the museums extensive exhibit of antique pharmaceutical products, relics and gadgets donated by the Kaegi family to the Clackamas County Historical Society. It will be a unique opportunity to discuss the collection with retirees from the field who may have once put these curiosities to use. CONCORD, N.C. When Concord resident Steve Cagle saw a flyer in the newspaper last year about discounted prescription prices at a local pharmacy, he jumped at the opportunity. At that time, he had no health insurance and was paying $150 a month for a prescription. When Cagle went to Cannon Pharmacys Concord location, he found a alternative prescription drug for $19 for a six-month supply, saving him hundreds of dollars. Since then, Cagle has been a regular customer of Cannon Pharmacy. Also, they found me rebates on the Internet, Cagle said. I found the big chain stores wouldnt go above and beyond and do that. I try to make a habit of using mom and pop stores because I feel like its important in the community to have a relationship. Im going to be a customer for life because of the way they treat [us]. Supervalu Administers Flu Shots

Leading grocery chain Supervalu Inc. (SVU) has started offering flu vaccines to its customers at its pharmacy locations. They also have trained pharmacists at the stores who are also responsible for administering the vaccines. Traditional flu vaccines, needle-free FluMist nasal spray, Fluzone Intradermal and the Fluzone HD for patients aged 65 and above will be available at stores of Supervalu Pharmacies. The shots will be administered at regular pharmacy hours on a walk-in or an appointment basis. Supervalu Pharmacies has 800 locations spread across 25 states and operates under 10 retail brands, namely, Acme Sav-on Pharmacy, Albertsons Sav-on Pharmacy, Albertsons Osco Pharmacy, Cub Pharmacy, Farm Fresh Pharmacy, Jewel-Osco Pharmacy, Shaws Osco Pharmacy, Shop n Save Pharmacy, Shop n Save Osco Pharmacy and Shoppers Pharmacy. Supervalu Pharmacies has been offering adult immunizations since 2000. URI's new pharmacy building to formally open

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.The University of Rhode Island is preparing to formally open its new $75 million pharmacy building, which has tripled the capacity of its College of Pharmacy. University officials next week are marking the opening of the five-story, 144,000 square-foot building, the largest academic building on the South Kingstown campus. Officials say the building was funded through $65 million in bonds and $10 million in private donations and university money. A ribbon-cutting is planned for Tuesday with URI President David Dooley, U.S. Rep. James Langevin (LAN'-jih-vin) and others. A new $42 million, 429-bed residence hall is also being built. It had initially been expected to open to students next month but a university spokeswoman says it will be ready in October. She says all students have been accommodated with temporary housing. Pharmacy robbed in Franklin County

Franklin County, MO (KSDK) - Deputies in Franklin County are investigating the armed robbery of a pharmacy in Krakow, Missouri. Police say a man walked into Hall's Pharmacy at 1:45 p.m. Police say he demanded narcotics and left on foot. The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s or 30s standing 5'10" tall with a stocky or muscular build. He was last seen wearing light shorts, a t-shirt, and a gold and black hat. He also had an elastic bandage wrapped around his face. He carried a white bag and said he had a weapon, though he never displayed one. Police believe the suspect may be associated with a health club. Authorities think the suspect entered a blue sporty-type vehicle with spoke or slotted wheels that was parted across Highway A, and drove east on Country Club Road. Police recovered a Mizzou hat and a t-shirt, possibly from "Supplement Super Stores," on Country Club Road. It is believed a second suspect may be involved.
