Thief crawls through attic to break into Rock Hill pharmacy

Posted: Published on March 14th, 2012

ROCK HILL -- More than 1,000 pills were stolen from a Rock Hill pharmacy early Monday - the same pharmacy that was the target of a 2009 crime spree. Surveillance footage shows a man enter Good Pharmacy on Ebenezer Road about 3:40 a.m., grab several bottles of pills and run out, according to a Rock Hill police report. When an employee arrived Monday morning, he noticed a ladder was at the rear of the building and a vent had been removed, the report states. The vent goes into the attic. He then called police. It appears the thief carried a stepladder, climbed up to the roof, crawled into the attic and down the ladder into the pharmacy. An inventory of the pharmacy showed that two bottles of Lortab, a bottle of Klonopin, six bottles of a high blood pressure medication and a bottle of Naxproxen were missing, the report states. The total number of pills stolen was not available, but it numbers in the thousands. A value of the pills was also unavailable, the report states. It's emotional, Alton Hyatt said. We take a lot of pride in the community. The community's been great to us, yet here we get … Continue reading

TCGRx Installs First InspectRx(TM) System for Medication Pouch Verification in Allcare Pharmacy

Posted: Published on March 13th, 2012

POWERS LAKE, WI--(Marketwire -03/13/12)- TCGRx (TCG) announces the first installation of the InspectRx pouch verification device at Allcare Pharmacy in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Allcare Pharmacy has implemented the ShortCycleRx System using both the Automatic Tablet Packager (ATP) and the InspectRx system from TCGRx. The ATP generates medication pouches for long-term care patients, which are then passed through the InspectRx for imaging and verification of the contents. The InspectRx images both sides of the pouch for labeling and medication content, analyzes the shape, size and color of the medications and recommends pouches for further inspection. InspectRx's software is user friendly and easily directs the user through visual inspection and automatic sorting of pouches with analysis of possible labeling and filling issues. Pharmacist time is reduced dramatically and peace of mind is greatly increased with the knowledge that the right medications are leaving the pharmacy. "InspectRx allows us to stay at the forefront of technology while increasing our pharmacy's efficiency and maintaining the accuracy we expect," said Allcare Pharmacy's COO Stephen Carroll. Pharmacy Where Ersland Shot Robber Accused Of Selling Too Many Prescription Drugs

Posted: Published on March 13th, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY - A pharmacy comes under fire for selling too many prescription drugs. With Oklahoma ranked No. 1 in the nation for prescription drug abuse, prosecutors are concerned Reliable Pharmacy is becoming a hot spot for addicts. Prosecutors say Reliable Pharmacy dispenses more pain pills than four larger neighboring pharmacies combined. Reliable Pharmacy first landed in the spotlight in 2009 when former pharmacist Jerome Ersland shot and killed a would-be robber. 7/8/2011 Related Story: Jerome Ersland Sentenced To Life In Prison By OKC Judge Now the small pharmacy is accused of selling a large amount of prescription drugs. Court documents show Reliable is No. 1 in the state for selling the top three most abused prescription drugs, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and alprazolam. "The other controlled drugs are comparable to the nearby pharmacies," said Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater."But not the top three most abused." Prater said he learned of the potential problem in a lawsuit between Reliable Pharmacy and its distributor, Cardinal Health. "We didn't know," Prater explained."The D.E.A and the O.B.N didn't know until Cardinal filed a compliance letter saying an inordinate amount of drugs are going out the door." Although Cardinal Health profits from Reliable's business, the … Continue reading

More controversy surrounds pharmacy, scene of shooting

Posted: Published on March 13th, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY -- There are some new developments in what has become one of the most notorious pharmacies in Oklahoma City. Reliable Pharmacy is located near Southwest 59th and Penn. Reliable was the scene of the shooting involving pharmacist Jerome Ersland several years ago. That shooting eventually led to a conviction, first-degree murder, for Ersland. Reliable was in the news again last week for an issue involving the potentially illegal sale of several well-known narcotics. The company that supplies those narcotics, Cardinal Health, had tried to cut them off because they suspected Reliable Pharmacy wasn't doing enough to ensure those pills weren't entering the street drug trade. The legal battle that is unfolding now involves two more heavy-hitters: Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. The issue involves the distribution and sale of three controlled dangerous substances: Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Xanex, sold under the generic name Alprazolam. D.A. David Prater tells us, when it comes to those three drugs, Reliable Pharmacy sells more than four area pharmacies combined. Walgreens and Walmart are across the street, Target is up the road about a mile and Ridgecrest Pharmacy is a small pharmacy in the area as well. … Continue reading

Court: Hospital improperly held pharmacy audit

Posted: Published on March 10th, 2012

Broadlawns Medical Center improperly kept secret an audit of its pharmacy done in the wake of drug thefts there, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled Friday. Broadlawns, which is owned and financed by Polk County taxpayers, has fought to prevent release of the audit since The Des Moines Register requested a copy in 2009. The audit was performed by the pharmacys director after a pharmacist who worked there admitted she stole addictive narcotics. Pharmacy Director Mark Hall and hospital executives contended that the report should not be made public because they gave a copy of it to the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, whose investigative files generally are confidential. A district judge ruled in favor of the hospital in 2010, but the Supreme Court disagreed on Friday. The court said public officials may not automatically make documents confidential by giving copies to a regulatory board. In this case, the justices said, the newspaper should have been given the audit. The public interest in information related to the theft of drugs from a pharmacy at a hospital funded by taxpayers is compelling, the justices wrote in a ruling released Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, Broadlawns still had not released the audit. The hospitals … Continue reading

VANCOUVER - A Vancouver pharmacy was robbed at gunpoint on Wednesday night, in what was the second narcotics heist at the store in as many weeks. Two masked men walked into the pharmacy in the 4800-block of Main Street shortly after 8 p.m., brandishing what appeared to be a handgun and demanded narcotics from the staff, according to Vancouver police. The thief with the gun kept watch over several customers while the other one took the drugs from a staff member. Both men fled with an unknown quantity of pharmaceutical narcotics and headed north, VPD spokesman Const. Lindsey Houghton said in a release. The officer didn't specify what kind of drugs were taken. One of the men was described as Asian, in his early twenties, 5-foot-6, and 140 lbs., with a slim build. He was wearing a black baseball hat with a Nike "swoosh" on the front, a blue hoodie with the hood pulled up, a bandana covering his face, blue jeans, white sneakers, white gloves, and he was holding what appeared to be a silver handgun in his right hand.
