Firefighter falls nearly 20 feet through roof at Navarro Pharmacy
Posted: Published on February 14th, 2012
By Monique O. Madan, The Miami Herald 12:16 p.m. EST, February 14, 2012 A major fire at a Navarro Pharmacy in Little Havana sent a Miami firefighter to the hospital Tuesday morning, according to the Miami Fire Department. Capt. Ray Pampin, 48, was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital after falling 15 to 20 feet. According to spokesman Ignatius Carroll, Pampin, a 25-year veteran, was checking the roof for hot spots but fell through an area that was covered by debris. "They were checking an area by an air-conditioning duct," Carroll said. "While doing that, he fell through a vent covered by debris. Crews called 'Mayday' and quickly treated him." Pampin is in stable condition. The fire was reported at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after dispatch received a call after an automatic alarm went off at the pharmacy, 1243 SW Eighth St. "Units saw smoke coming from the doors," Carroll said. "They touched the door and knew it was a working fire." More than 40 firefighters fought the blaze, which took more than one hour to control. Carroll said they have ruled out arson. "The fire was determined to be accidental," he said. "We are trying to … Continue reading

Pharmacy grads will have jobs, minister says
Posted: Published on February 14th, 2012
By Lisa J. Ariffin KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 — Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai assured unemployed pharmacy graduates today they will have jobs soon. The health minister blamed the delay of a salary scale for civil servants under a revised government remuneration scheme for the lack of jobs. “Lately, the bit of delay of employing our pharmacists into our system is due to the new SBPA that has been deferred,” Liow (picture) said. He assured the new pharmacists they will be recruited as soon as possible. Liow said the government was working to bridge the public-private healthcare divide and will soon be able to offer more jobs to new pharmacy graduates. “To say that we don’t have enough positions to cater is not true,” Liow said, responding to recent reports highlighting pharmacy graduates who claim they have been jobless as far back as eight months ago. “In fact we are liberalising our policy, we would like to allow our pharmacists to work either in government or private (sectors),” he told reporters following the launch of a pharmaceutical industry fact here. He said his ministry had even liberated attachment conditions for fresh graduates and was taking in more pharmacy graduates annually. … Continue reading

Pharmacy used by Michael Jackson may have supplied Whitney Houston with pills
Posted: Published on February 14th, 2012
Whitney Houston was underwater and unconscious when staff found her in the bathtub of her Los Angeles hotel suite, police confirmed last night, amid mounting speculation about the role prescription drugs may have played in her death. The room at the Beverly Hilton hotel where the 48-year-old singer was discovered on Saturday afternoon contained several bottles of pills, they revealed. But it remains too early to speculate about whether they contributed to her demise. "She was underwater and apparently unconscious," said Lt Mark Rosen, of Beverly Hills police. "Ms Houston was pulled from the [bath] tub by members of her staff and hotel security was promptly notified." Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation was immediately performed, but it was too late to revive her and she was pronounced dead at 3.55pm. A post-mortem examination did not reveal obvious signs of trauma or foul play, but no official cause of death will be announced until toxicology tests are completed, a process likely to take between six and eight weeks. Earlier, the showbusiness website TMZ reported that a range of painkillers and sedatives, including Xanax, Ibuprofen, Amoxicillin and Midol, were recovered from the scene. Some had been obtained from the Mickey Fine clinic in Beverly Hills, … Continue reading

Comprehensive Care Corporation, Tampa, Florida, Offers New Pharmacy Management Initiative Designed to Reduce …
Posted: Published on February 13th, 2012
TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Comprehensive Care Corporation ("CompCare" or the "Company") (OTCBB: CHCR.OB - News) today announced that it has launched its innovative new pharmacy management program designed to substantially lower prescription drug costs in California. "This is an innovative initiative, which has provided us with the ability, in almost every case, to materially lower the costs of prescription drugs for our clients. An example, outside of California, is noteworthy. One of our HMO clients is at risk for its member's prescription drugs and spends approximately $300 million annually. After analyzing the drug spend, CompCare offered to go at full risk for the identical drugs for only $270 million. If the client accepts this proposal, it would totally eliminate the client's drug cost risk, providing the client an immediate $30 million savings to its bottom line over its previous year drug spend," said Clark A. Marcus, Chairman and CEO. "We are able to provide savings because of our affiliation with a major retailer, affording us significantly lower prices," Mr. Marcus explained. "In California, at CompCare's sole cost and expense, we will conduct a detailed analysis of any potential client's pharmacy costs over any selected 90-day period. Based on … Continue reading

A FORMER Albury man who hatched the idea of breaking into a pharmacy at Henty while on a train trip from Sydney has been jailed for 30 months on a charge of aggravated break, enter and steal. Michael Douglas Collins, 33, has been sentenced in the District Court at Albury to a minimum term of 15 months backdated to July last year and expiring on September 30 this year. Judge Martin Blackmore imposed a further 15 months on parole which expires on December 31 next year. He took into account when sentencing a charge of goods in custody with Collins having a Victorian Centrelink pension concession card when arrested in Albury. Collins and another man travelled on the XPT from Sydney on April 13 last year. The other man had a ticket to Melbourne and the destination for Collins was Culcairn. They began talking before boarding the train and Collins indicated he knew the Henty township and where the pharmacy was located. Both of them had a “shot” of heroin before getting off the train at Henty about 4am and walked to the main street.
