TRENTON, N.J. (AP) The state of New Jersey announced Friday it will seek to revoke the permit of a compounding pharmacy that is under investigation after some of its products were discovered to be contaminated with mold. Tinton Falls-based Med Prep Consulting ceased operations last month after it was revealed the pharmacy had shipped intravenous bags contaminated with mold to a Connecticut hospital. The pharmacy and the Food and Drug Administration announced a national recall of all products compounded by Med Prep. No injuries or illnesses have been linked to the contamination. On Friday, New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa announced the state will seek to have the pharmacys permit revoked due to multiple allegations of gross negligence and professional misconduct. Med Prep is a compounding pharmacy, which means it mixes custom formulations of drugs to meet doctors specifications. The state alleges the company labeled products incorrectly, didnt adequately test its products and compromised the sterility of work areas. After the company submits a response to the allegations, the state Board of Pharmacy will determine whether to hear the case or refer it to an administrative law judge. Hilos College of Pharmacy must continue to wait for a permanent home, after legislators this week failed to include the $38 million needed for the schools building in the final draft of their $23.8 billion budget for the state. Budget negotiations for fiscal years 2014 and 2015 came to a close on Tuesday evening, well ahead of the Friday deadline. Administrators, students and a community-based network of supporters of the University of Hawaii at Hilo Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy lobbied heavily this year for the funding to begin construction of a permanent facility to house the relatively new program. The college has operated out of multiple temporary locations and trailer classrooms since its launch in 2007. Big Island legislators said Friday that much of the debate came down to the need for upkeep outweighing that of new construction, with many legislators hesitant to fund a new campus building for UH-Hilo when the university system is already wrestling with a $461 million maintenance backlog for its current facilities. Zachary Allan Clausner, 32, of 136 Parker Road faces charges of robbery, theft by unlawful taking, terroristic threats, fleeing or attempting to elude police, recklessly endangering another person, tampering with / fabricating physical evidence and reckless driving for the incident that occurred approximately 8:20 p.m. April 15. He was charged before District Judge Charles Moore in Scottdale on April 16. According to the criminal complaint, Clausner walked into the Rite Aid Store/Pharmacy in East Huntingdon, took a shopping cart, walked to the pharmacy section, handed the pharmacist a note that read: I have a gun...stay calm. Don't make me hurt you. Give me all your Oxycodone in 15mg, 30mg and any Vic's (Vicodin). The pharmacist complied and handed Clausner several bottles of Oxycodone.
