Attorney Derek Merman Represents Compounding Pharmacy Recall Victims Nationwide

Posted: Published on April 17th, 2013

HOUSTON, April 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorney Derek Merman from The Merman Law Firm, located in Houston, Texas is accepting additional clients who are victims of compounding pharmacy recalls -- recalls which seem to be announced on an increasingly routine basis. For example, in 2011, 2012, and most recently in 2013, compounding pharmacies have been responsible for contaminated drugs that have caused serious infections, vision loss, and an alarming outbreak of fungal meningitis, which resulted in serious illnesses and deaths. For good reason, these pharmacies' practices are drawing scrutiny from the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA recognizes that pharmacy compounding, performed as it was originally intended, provides an important service if a patient cannot be treated with an FDA-approved medication. For example, a compounding pharmacy may alter an FDA-approved drug to ensure that an ingredient the patient is allergic to is eliminated, or to change the medication's form from a pill to a liquid. The compounding pharmacy industry is growing, and in … Continue reading

Ask Amy: Broke 22-year-old pharmacy student

Posted: Published on April 16th, 2013

Dear Amy: I am a 22-year-old student in my last year of classes for pharmacy school. For the next year, I will be out on rotation (working in different pharmacy settings on an unpaid basis to gain experience out in the field). I have been with my boyfriend, a fellow graduate student, for the past three years. We have a committed relationship and have discussed our future. We have agreed we would like to live together. I recently tried gauging my mother and was shot down with, "I'm not interested in that." There was no discussion or explanation. I know my parents are not happy with my relationship. They never ask about John when I'm home, and they get visibly uncomfortable if I mention his name. I have consistently maintained high grades, held a good job and participated in extracurricular activities throughout my school career; having a boyfriend has not detracted from any of these things. I feel I am an adult who is making smart choices. I know I am lucky to have my parents' financial support for my housing. They pay for my rent. I understand he who holds the purse makes the call (I would not be … Continue reading

Pharmacy approval celebrated in Ashtead

Posted: Published on April 13th, 2013

A DECISION to allow a pharmacy to open at an Ashtead site has been called "a brilliant victory for common sense and people power". Community groups, councillors and the village's MP Chris Grayling all supported Abdool Kureemans plans to open a pharmacy in The Street but his battle to do so has lasted more than a year. Older people had led the calls for a chemist shop to open in the villages main shopping street ever since Lloyds Pharmacy closed in February last year. Since then, they have had to travel to Lower Ashtead for medicines, a situation that led Mr Kureeman to seek permission to open a replacement at the Lloyds site. But to the astonishment of many villagers, the application by Mr Kureeman, who already runs the popular Buckley Pharmacy in Lower Ashtead, was rejected by health bosses amid opposition from Lloyds. Undeterred, he turned his attention to the former Barclays Bank site, also in The Street, and after further opposition from Lloyds and an agonising wait, he learned this week that the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust had approved his application for a pharmacy there. I am elated, he said. Ive been waiting for more than … Continue reading
