ByJESSA LEWIS 6 News Reporter KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Three people were injured Thursday when a car accidentally drove into the storefront of a Knoxville pharmacy. A man's Ford Explorer crashed into Mac's Pharmacy on Washington Pike around 1:30 p.m. Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said a man was picking up his wife from a beauty shop across the street from the pharmacy. That's when the driver, Dewey Kidwell, 80, said the gas pedal of his Ford Explorer got stuck and drove straight across the road and into the building. Witnesses are still startled by what happened, and say their first instinct was to make sure everyone was alright. "I mean it was like at my cash register, and then it went on up into the pharmacy area," said witness and Mac's Pharmacy employee Brenda Underwood. Employees and customers inside the Washington Pike pharmacy were shocked when an SUV crashed through the front door. "I had just waited on a customer, she was getting ready to walk out, and here comes a car, just flying through the front door, past, knocks over one of the displays and just ran up into the back of the pharmacy area," Underwood explained. Regional Investigations Unit detectives say they have charged a woman in relation to two incidents on Sunday and Monday at the same pharmacy in North Fremantle. They say that at about 8:30am on Sunday a woman entered the pharmacy on Stirling Highway, North Fremantle and presented a prescription for a certain medication. 'While processing the order it was established the woman was no longer entitled to the medication, and when informed of that she took the medication and ran from the pharmacy,' detectives said. 'About 2:55pm on Monday its alleged the same woman entered the same pharmacy and walked directly behind the counter and threatened the Pharmacist with a knife, demanding the same medication. 'The pharmacist complied with the demands and handed over an amount of medication. 'Officers from Fremantle Detectives located the person of interest, and arrested her and handed her over to the Regional Investigations Unit for further investigation. 'It will be alleged the accused was responsible for both of the incidents.' A 30 year old woman from Alfred Cove has been charged with one count each of Stealing and Armed Robbery, and will appear in the Fremantle Magistrates Court. (CBS News) When the FDA raided the New England Compounding Center last September, inspectors found major violations, including visible specs of black fungus in drug vials. David Miller "That is indeed unusual in the profession of pharmacy to see such blatant disregard for human life and for the professional standards that we hold dear," says David Miller, the head of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacies. The IACP represents these companies that tailor, or compound, medicines for specific patients. "This misbehavior of this one compounding pharmacy in particular -- the benefit to that is that that has enabled all of us to ask that very question and say, 'What can we do to make sure an NECC tragedy can never happen again,'" Miller says. But in January, Massachusetts finished conducting 40 unannounced inspections of different compounding pharmacies. Only four passed; all or part of 11 of those pharmacies were shut down.
