How to Mend a Broken Heart

Human trials of stem cell therapy for post-heart attack patients have raised as many questions as they have answered — because while the patients have tended to show some improvement in heart function, the stem cells do not appear to turn into heart cells or even survive. CIRM Major Facilities Speed Stem Cell Science and Create Jobs

CIRM funded 12 new research facilities in California, a $272 million investment that leveraged $1.1 billion in donor and institutional funding. This funding has already created construction jobs for the buildings, many of which are expected to be completed in the next two years.
