From 1988 to 1996, thousands of people suffering through the final stages of AIDS were cared for with dignity and compassion at Chris Brownlie Hospice, which became the first AIDS hospice in California when it was opened by the organization then known as AIDS Hospice Foundation After transitioning from hospice care in 1996 with the advent of lifesaving antiretroviral drugs, the facility then served as headquarters of AIDS Healthcare Foundation #39;s Public Health Division; now, the facility officially shut its doors with a sunset memorial ceremony on Jan. 26th
