The Foetal Cardiology Services at the St Gregorios Cardio Vascular Centre (SGCVC) at Parumala will be hosting a foetal cardiology and foetal cardiac morphology conference at Wyte Prtico auditorium at Adoor on January 26.

According to Saji Philip, renowned paediatric cardiologist and organising secretary of the conference, foetal echo-cardiography is a rapidly progressing primary modality for defining and evaluating the foetal cardiac status.

Foetal cardiology encompasses the management of foetuses with congenital heart disease, foetal arrhythmias, and the exploration of foetal myocardial function and cardio-circulatory conditions in high-risk pregnancies, says Dr Philip.

Subspecialty

He said foetal cardiology has become a dynamic subspecialty of foetal medicine. Improvement in prenatal therapeutic approaches for complex congenital heart diseases would probably be one of the major developments in the future of foetal cardiology, he said.

Dr Philip said the day-long conference is being sponsored by the Chennai-based Dr K.M. Cherian Heart Foundation.

Vikas Kohli from New Delhi, Prathima R. from Bangalore, Nageswara Rao from Hyderabad, Snehal Kulkarni from Mumbai, Balu Vaidyanathan, Bijoy Balakrishnan, both from Kochi, Bijilal Sasidharan, V.H.Shankar, Vidyaklekshmi.R, all from Thiruvananthapuram, will be the eminent national faculties to address the conference.

Dr K.M. Cherian, world renowned cardio-thoracic surgeon and chief executive officer of the Chennai-based Frontier Life Line, will inaugurate the conference at 8.30 a.m.
