Dallas Plastic Surgeon Is the New President of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF)

Dallas plastic surgeon William P. Adams, Jr., MD, is the new President of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF). The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

Dr. Adams is in private practice and is an Associate Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He chairs the ASERF Innovative Procedures committee that puts on the popular Hot Topics Course at the Annual ASAPS meeting. Dr. Adams personal research focus has been on breast implant aging and development, capsular contracture and improving patient outcomes in breast surgery, and he has published numerous papers and book chapters on advances in breast implants and breast augmentation techniques as well as presented multiple plastic surgery lectures. He has developed and put on breast surgery live surgical preceptorships and Master classes at the national and international level. He has recently published a new Breast Augmentation textbook and surgical atlas to further educate surgeons, and co-edited a 2 volume rhinoplasty textbook, Dallas Rhinoplasty, which serves as one of the classic rhinoplasty texts available.

Dr. Adams received his medical degree from Vanderbilt School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. He completed both his general surgery residency and his plastic surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1997. Dr. Adams was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) in 1999, and became a member of ASAPS in 2002.

Other new Foundation Officers include:

President-Elect: Al Aly, MD of Irvine, CA, is a professor of plastic surgery/director of aesthetic surgery, at the University of California Irvine. Dr. Aly is one of the pioneers of the field of body contouring after massive weight loss. He edited the first and definitive text on this subject. He has lectured and/or performed surgical demonstrations in over 20 countries and is considered one of the worlds foremost authority on plastic surgery after massive weight loss. Dr. Aly is the body contouring section editor for the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and associate editor for the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Journal. He is the Editor-in-chief of the Plastic Surgery Educational Network (PSEN). Dr. Aly has received the Lockwood Award, the most prestigious award given by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery to surgeons that have made major contributions to the field of body contouring and is the International Visiting Professor for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2013.

Vice President: J. Peter Rubin, MD of Pittsburgh, PA, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, and Founder and Director of the Life After Weight Loss Body Contouring Program. He is a noted expert on body contouring after massive weight loss and lead editor of two textbooks on body contouring. Dr. Rubin is also a scientific researcher in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine. He has received numerous awards for his research work, including the highly competitive Gingrass Award from the Plastic Surgery Research Council. He is the recipient of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons Academic Scholar Award, and the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation Award for Outstanding Achievement in Basic and Translational Science. In 2007, Dr. Rubin was selected to receive a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). The Presidential Award is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding scientists and engineers early in their research careers.

Treasurer: Steven Teitelbaum, MD of Santa Monica, CA, is in private practice and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Teitelbaum has published numerous papers and book chapters as well as presented multiple plastic surgery lectures at the international level. He is actively involved in independent medical research, and maintains a personal commitment to public service through such activities as charity work and testimony before the FDA about safety issues related to aesthetic surgery.

Secretary: Barry E. DiBernardo, MD of Montclair, NJ, is the Medical Director of New Jersey Plastic Surgery and an Associate Clinical Professor in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. DiBernardo has published numerous papers and book chapters as well as presented multiple plastic surgery lectures. He is an International Instructor for multiple laser and energy based systems as well as skin care modalities. In addition to being a plastic surgeon, Dr. DiBernardo has been a professional photographer for 45 years, and has photographed with National Geographic.
