The Department of Cardiology at MD Anderson was founded in 2000 as the first Onco-cardiology unit in the world to provide comprehensive cardiac care to patients with cancer. Our cardiologists are experts in caring for the cancer patients who develop cardiovascular complications following cancer therapy or with co-existing cardiac diseases. The vision of the Department of Cardiology is to be the model of onco-cardiology or cardio-oncology units throughout the world.

Our faculty and staff are at the forefront of developing new diagnostic methods and innovative therapies for cardiovascular complications of cancer therapies, establishing the standard of care in onco-cardiology.

Patient Care & Services: We seek to provide the best cardiac care for the best Cancer Center. We provide comprehensive cardiac services including outpatient clinics, inpatient services, echocardiography, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, cardiac MRI, and nuclear studies.

Research: Our research team lead by Edward T.H. Yeh, MD, Professor and Chair, discovered the molecular mechanism of anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity that has caused a major paradigm shift 50 years after the discovery of anthracycline.

Education: Weekly seminars, grand rounds, and international conferences on Cancer and the Heart and SUMO, Ubiqutin, UBL Proteins have brought us worldwide recognition.
