KISSIMMEE DNA from an aborted fetus led to the arrest last weekend of a suspect charged with having sex with a 14-year-old girl he met on Facebook, according to police records.

Kevon Butler, 23, was charged over the July Fourth holiday weekend with seducing an impregnating the teen last fall after renting a room for the night at a motel on Vine Street, records state.

The girl's parents found about the relationship when Butler's girlfriend called and told them about the underage affair with the convicted cocaine dealer. The teenager later told police she might have had unprotected sex with him, records state.

In early November less than a month after she met Butler the teen's father notified police that she was pregnant and that the pregnancy would be terminated within the week at an out-of-town clinic. A detective and a crime scene technician went to the clinic and collected a DNA specimen after the procedure, records show.

The specimen was stored in a police evidence freezer at the Kissimmee Police Department as detectives continued to investigate the case.

In April, police collected two DNA specimens from Butler and sent all of the specimens to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's crime laboratory.

In mid-June, the results came back from FDLE showing Butler was the likely father with a margin of error of 1 in 2.2 billion, records show.

"This is the first case I've ever seen that (detectives) have been waiting on a specimen like that," said police spokeswoman Stacie Miller.

At 1 a.m. last Friday, police responded to a complaint on Benita Street in a neighborhood known for drug dealing and gun-related arrests.

When an officer stopped to question three men standing near a metal dumpster, he heard a loud noise as they started walking away. The officer stopped the closest man, who turned out to be Butler, whom he suspected might have thrown away a handgun after spotting the police car, records state.
