DNA helps solve cold case

A private crime lab that Greenville police on Monday said helped them solve a 14-year-old robbery will be used by the department as much as possible in future cases, the chief said.

Police Chief Hassan Aden said the Center for Advanced Forensic DNA Analysis, which opened earlier this year in Greenville, is quicker than the State Bureau of Investigation crime lab and will take cases the state cannot.

The cold case robbery did not meet the SBIs criteria because there were no known suspects, Aden said during an afternoon news conference. The case was the right fit for the lab in Greenville, though.
