NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -

Beginning Wednesday, the FBI will be DNA testing the car Alexis Murphy was driving when she disappeared, to determine whether Jesse Matthew was in the car.

Missing Nelson County teen Alexis Murphy disappeared in 2013. Even though these tests are slated to start this week, it remains unclear when those DNA test results will be released.

Earlier this month, an attorney for Randy Taylor, the man convicted for the murder of Murphy, asked investigators to do new DNA testing to check for a possible link between Matthew, whose charged with the abduction of missing UVa. student Hannah Graham and a 2005 Fairfax rape, and Murphy.

Michael Hallahan, Taylor's attorney, sent a letter to the Nelson County commonwealth's attorney requesting DNA tests to investigate a possible link between the two cases.

"Alexis Murphy's family members testified at Randy Taylor's trial that Alexis would have NEVER gone to Taylor's residence without someone else being with her. Alexis Murphy's friends testified that she liked older men (Matthew being about 12 years older) and she was very active on social media, having thousands of friends and followers," the letter reads.

Hallahan said that according to testimony and evidence, Murphy didn't plan on coming straight home after shopping the last day she was seen.

"Taking all this into account, one would conclude that Alexis Murphy had planned time that evening for a date. Could she have gone to and left Randy Taylor's residence with Matthew?"

Hallahan mentioned several other idiosyncrasies between the cases that matched. At that time, Nelson County Commonwealth's Attorney Anthony Martin reiterated their position that there was no link between Matthew and the Alexis Murphy case.

"The Nelson County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, the Nelson County Sheriff's Office, FBI and Virginia State Police again maintain that there is no credible evidence linking Jesse Leroy Matthew, Jr. for the abduction and murder of Alexis Murphy in which Randy Taylor was convicted," Martin said in a statement.
