Dr. Gregory Mishkel named to the Allstate Foundation/Judson B. Branch Chair of Cardiology – Chicago Daily Herald

December 10, 2019 -- Evanston, Ill. -- NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) has named Gregory Mishkel, MD, MBA, as the Allstate Foundation/Judson B. Branch Chair of Cardiology, an endowed chair generously established by the Allstate Foundation in 1972 in honor of Allstate's fifth chairman and CEO, Judson B. Branch. An endowed chair represents the highest level of prestige at academic medical institutions and honors excellence in care, research and medical education. Dr. Mishkel -- who assumed the chair effective July 1, 2019 -- is the third chair holder, following Timothy A. Sanborn, MD (appointed in 2001) and Jorge F. Saucedo MD, MBA (appointed in 2013).

Dr. Mishkel joined NorthShore in January 2019 as the Division Head of Cardiology, Co-Director of the Cardiovascular Institute and Physician Vice President of Cardiology Operations. He also holds the academic appointment, Clinical Professor, University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He received his MD from the University of Toronto where he also did his internal medicine internship and residency. He completed his cardiology fellowship at McMaster University followed by a clinical research fellowship in cardiology at Toronto General Hospital and an interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. In 2019, Dr. Mishkel received his MBA from Indiana University Kelley School of Business. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology, the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and the American College of Chest Physicians.

He places a high priority on education and is committed to elevating and expanding our cardiology fellowship program, which provides highly specialized clinical training and research experiences for the next generation of cardiovascular specialists."

Most recently, Dr. Mishkel was Executive Medical Director of the Prairie Heart Institute and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and two book chapters and is a reviewer of manuscripts for highly regarded cardiology journals.

At NorthShore, Dr. Mishkel is a leader in a new integrated physician/administrative organizational structure, overseeing all aspects of the clinical, educational and research activities in Cardiology Operations. As Physician Vice President, he oversees all facets of cardiology clinical operations, advancing NorthShore's quality, growth and financial objectives across the care continuum.
