Pathways Team Assists Ongoing Recovery from Hurricane Katrina Thirty-two community members sponsored by Pathways Christian Fellowship recently traveled as a team to Louisiana to assist in the ongoing rebuilding of the Greater New Orleans area after Hurricane Katrina. The group learned that even though the disaster occurred more than six years ago, the need for disaster relief remains. This is the fifth year disaster relief teams sponsored by Pathways have traveled to southeastern Louisiana, and the group was once again confronted by the reality that many continue to struggle with recovery.

Drug Awareness Forum Planned in East Aurora Community leaders and organizations are teaming up to provide East Aurora parents with information on the dangersand the widespread use by teensof drugs. Several speakers will discuss the abuse of prescription drugs and the toll it can take on teens and families.

YellowJackets A Cappella Group to Perform at Iroquois The YellowJackets, the University of Rochester's premier a cappella group, will perform at Iroquois Central High School on Thurs., March 15 at 7 p.m. The concert takes place in the auditorium at 2111 Girdle Road in Elma.

Survey Says: Preserve Marilla's Rural Character Based on several hundred responses received back from Marill''s town-wide survey, the vast majority of residents find it very important that the town maintain its rural setting.

Aurora Sets Hearings on Picketing Law and Building Code Changes The Feb. 27 meeting of the Aurora Town Board saw the return of Supervisor Jolene Jeffe to the council's helm. Jeffe, who took a weeks-long medical leave following a surgical procedure, thanked Town Clerk Martha Librock and the members of the board for their work during her absence. Jeffe presented flowers to Deputy Supervisor Susan Friess, who she said spent quite a bit of time in the office [at Town Hall] covering for me.

Marilla Considers Transferring Water Districts to ECWA Preliminary talks have started for the Town of Marilla to give full control of its water system to the Erie County Water Authority. No decisions will be made for some time, but there is interest in making the switch, as it could potentially save the town money down the road.

Men Taking Items from House Had Outstanding Arrest Warrants Five people were detained in Marilla on Wednesday night following a report of a burglary in progress at 11810 Williston Road. Erie County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Weiss responded to the scene, where he encountered three males and two females allegedly loading items from the residence into a vehicle. All subjects were detained by Deputy Weiss.

Deputies Say Brothers Repeatedly Stole from Vacant Elma Home The Erie County Sheriffs Office today reported that a month-long investigation of multiple larcenies in the Town of Elma has resulted in the arrest of two individuals. Deputies Jason Weiss, Tom Was and Tim Higgins of the Elma substation conducted the investigation.

Village Receives Tentative Budget: Slight Tax Increase Expected Village Administrator Bryan Gazda released the tentative 2012-2013 East Aurora budget to village trustees at Monday nights work session. The $7,769,671 general fund spending plan anticipates property tax revenues of approximately $3,495,811, representing a tax rate increase of .59 percent to $17.33984 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation.

EMW Drug Task Force Plans March 13 Meeting The Elma, Marilla & Wales Drug and Alcohol Community Task Force will hold its second town meeting on at 6:45 p.m. on Tues., March 13. The meeting will take place at the Elma Senior Citizens Center, 3007 Bowen Road.
