A 31-year-old Katy woman has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in a six-vehicle wreck that left one man dead and another person seriously injured.

Mytreka Nyshell Ealem was in the Harris County Jail on $30,000 bond Thursday, according to online law enforcement records.

The wreck happened about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 2200 Texas 6 near Piping Rock Lane in west Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said Ealem was driving a maroon Ford Expedition southbound on Texas 6 when she crossed the center divider and hit a northbound black Ford Escape.

The Expedition then struck a white Hyundai Santa Fe, whose driver lost control and was hit by two other northbound vehicles.

Two backseat passengers in the Hyundai were thrown from the SUV. Both were taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, where one of them, a 42-year-old man, died. The other was in serious condition.

The victims' names were not released Thursday.

Police said Ealem was found to be under the influence of illegal narcotics. She is scheduled to appear Friday in the 263rd State District Court.

Chronicle reporter Carol Christian contributed to this report.
