POLICE are investigating whether drugs were a factor in a four-car crash involving a pregnant woman and a 15-month-old child in Chelsea.

The incident occurred when a red Mazda sedan travelling south on Station St near Embankment Dr veered into oncoming traffic and collided head on with a BMW sedan about 4.40pm on January 28.

A Hyundai 4WD driving north crashed into the rear of the BMW and then into a parked Holden Commodore.

A pregnant 35-year-old woman, 33-year-old man and a 15-month-old child travelling in the Hyundai, all from Edithvale, were taken to hospital by ambulance but suffered no injuries.

The Mazda driver was not injured but was taken to Frankston Hospital for observation, while the two occupants in the BMW were uninjured.

Sgt Sven Koernig said police were checking into the state of mind of the Mazda driver during the crash and whether drugs were involved.

“We’re investigating all avenues with this incident,” Sgt Koernig said.

A 30-year-old Langwarrin woman has been charged with conduct endangering life and will appear before court at a later date.
