Matthew Marshall

A DRUG syndicate mastermind and a former Albury detective each pleaded guilty yesterday to involvement with an ice ring uncovered by a coverted operation using phone taps.

Matthew Louis Marshall served with the drug squad before leaving the force and becoming involved with Malcolm John Collins, who had many working for him distributing drugs.

Collins, 44, appeared in Albury Local Court yesterday through a videolink from Cessnock jail.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of supplying a commercial quantity of prohibited drug with the amount being 451.5 grams.

Director of Public Prosecutions representative Diana Paterson deleted reference to a large commercial quantity and withdrew 16 other charges.

Three fresh charges of supplying 134.85 grams of amphetamines, 1914 grams of cannabis and 10.3 grams of ecstasy between July 18 and October 10 last year will be considered when Collins appears for sentence in the District Court at Albury on August 5.

Marshall, 42, of Albury, pleaded guilty to 13 supply charges mainly involving agreement to provide drugs, with another seven charges including indictable offences being withdrawn.

Solicitor Paul Robb sought a two-week adjournment to finalise the facts relating to Marshalls offending.

He remains on bail.
