Drugs worth crores seized from police officer's residence in Punjab

Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab), Mar 30 (ANI): Police recovered a huge cache of drugs worth crores from the residence of a Sub Inspector in a raid in Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab on Saturday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fatehgarh Sahib H.S Mann gave the statistics of the opium recovered from the government official's residence.

"We recovered 2Kgs and 600 grams of Opium from the house of Sub inspector Sarbjit Singh and one kilogram of unidentified powder was also recovered which we are examining," said Mann.

"A lot of material used to package these drugs was recovered as well, there is a 12 gage gun and some shells of AK-47 ammunition was also found along with eleven mobile phones," he added.

Police personnel were taken aback by the large quantities of drugs along with packing equipment and guns and ammunition that were recovered.

Mann further said that a report would be sent to higher authorities, and added that they would take necessary action in this case.

The government is trying to establish the scale of production of drugs like cannabis, heroin and illegal pharmaceuticals.

Last month the anti-narcotics directorate destroyed 445 kilograms (981 pounds) of heroin seized in Punjab between 2008 and 2012. (ANI)
