ER Doctor Pleads Not guilty In Wild Wellesley Crash An award-winning ER doctor pleaded not guilty today to charges she was drunk and drugged when she perilously sped through a Whole Foods parking lot in Wellesley and slammed into another car, authorities said. Kristin Howard, a 56-year-old emergency room doctor at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, was released on her own recognizance following her appearance today in Dedham District Court, where prosecutors asked a judge to hold her on $10000 cash bail on a slew of charges, including driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, causing serious bodily injury and possession of prescription pills. Officers responded to the corner of State and Washington streets at around 8:45 am, Friday, where police say Howard tried leaving the scene of the crash. Dramatic footage of the accident shows Howard #39;s car careening through a nearby parking lot, clipping a tree and mdash; with the back end of the car several feet off the ground mdash; crashing into a car waiting at the intersection, pushing it into a nearby truck. With Howard #39;s crumpled car still smoking, several people get out of their cars to observe the damage. Police said one person was taken to the hospital with injuries, but his or her status was not immediately available. Officials at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, upon learning of her arrest Friday, "immediately relieved her of all hospital related responsibilities," said hospital spokesman Brian O #39;Dea.
