Bethesda, MD - The long term objective of the 2015 Conference is to advance collaborative interactions between investigators that study different basic aspects of mitochondrial biology and translational investigators engaged in studying mitochondrial roles in human health, disease, and aging. These collaborative interactions are essential to develop innovative interdisciplinary approaches to further our understanding of mitochondria at the fundamental, translational and clinical levels.

To achieve our long term objective, our immediate objectives are:

To cover 8 major topics:

2) Mitochondrial protein quality control

3) Heme, Fe-S clusters and metal cofactors in mitochondrial metabolism

4) Mitochondrial stress in cell signaling and aging

5) Mitochondrial dynamics in development and disease

6) Nuclear DNA-driven mechanisms of mitochondrial disease

7) New Pathways, Biomarkers and Technologies to Study Mitochondrial Function

8) Challenges and Opportunities in Mitochondrial Biology and Medicine.
