Ungerer has been teaching for 11 years, coming to Fairbanks after three years of teaching at Bishop Ready High School in Columbus. (Photo submitted) Fairbanks High School chemistry teacher Jeff Ungerer doesnt work for a living, he has fun. I wake up every day with excitement, with a purpose, he said. (Teaching) is not work for me. Its just a lot of fun. His enthusiasm is not going unnoticed. The Columbus Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) recently named Ungerer its Outstanding High School Chemistry Teacher of the Year. He will be honored at the organizations May 8 meeting. FHS and Ungerer will also receive a cash prize.
