Free Pap Smears Offered At Jersey City Medical Center This Week – Patch

JERSEY CITY, NJ In honor of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, Jersey City Medical Center will offer free Pap smear screenings to women without insurance on Wednesday, Jan. 11, and Friday, Jan. 13.

The screenings will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation Infusion Center.

The Medical Center encourages uninsured women in Jersey City who are 21 years and older to register for one of the free Pap smear screenings.

Women should schedule Pap smears once a year to screen for cervical cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that 14,480 individuals will be newly diagnosed with cervical cancer in the United States, and more than 4,000 die from it each year.

Cervical cancer is the only gynecologic cancer that can be prevented through early screenings or routine Pap tests, primary prevention with HPV vaccines, and implementing lifestyle changes including maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active, and eating a healthy diet, along with avoiding or quitting smoking.

Women without insurance will have their screening funded through a partnership with Jersey City Medical Center and New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJCEED) program. The Infusion Center is located at 414 Grand Street Suite 9 in Jersey City.
