Cade Orchard of Muncieis one of the geology students at Earlham College in Richmond using state-of-the-art Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) tools on loan from a national nonprofit research and educational consortium to produce high-resolution topography maps.

Earlham is among the first colleges in the country to receive the toolsas part of a nationwide initiative to train the future environmental geology workforce, according to a release.Using a drone and new GNSS tools on loan from UNAVCO, 10 students in the earth surfaces processes class are attempting to create more sophisticated maps.

This was one of the courses I've been looking forward to most here at Earlham, Orchard said. I need an understanding of geomorphology and surface processes for my future career, and mapping and surveying is an important component of that."

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County recentlyannounced that Marcy Minton, senior program officer, and Kallie Sulanke, community engagement officer, have successfully achieved the Results-Based Accountability Professional Certification.

Results-Based Accountabilityuses a data-driven decision-making process to help communities and organizations take action to solve problems. The Community Foundation first embraced (RBA) in 2017, according to a release. Foundation board members and staff completed a practical training session in late 2019. To dive further into RBA and use the framework in Muncie and Delaware County, Minton and Sulanke began the certification process earlier this year.

The Community Foundation has already begun to incorporate RBA principles into grantmaking and will encourage others to investigate and utilize the framework for larger community plans.

Peter Powers, a Muncie native and 1997 graduate of Yorktown High School, has accepted the position of CEO of Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla.,the flagship hospital of Memorial Healthcare System.

Power is the son of Paul and Julie Powers of Muncie.Prior to this position, Peter Powers was CEO of St. Anthony Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center Hospital in Denver, Colo.

Powers oversees the 797-bed hospital, which is home to MemorialCardiac and Vascular Institute, Memorial Transplant Institute, Memorial Cancer Institute, Memorial Neuroscience Institute, Comprehensive Stroke Center, the Family Birthplace and Level 1 Trauma Center.

He received his B.S. degree in public affairs from Indiana University and MBA from the University of Sydney, Australia. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).

Ball State University recently dedicated a classroom in recognition of the Indiana Bankers Associations generous gift in support of a new minor in banking.

The dedication on Oct. 28 was a result of Ball States Department of Finance and Insurance partnering with the Indiana Bankers Association (IBA) to provide students with curricular and career opportunities in the field of banking as a result of a new minor. The curriculum was developed with input from the Indiana banking community.

The IBA is supporting this initiative with a pledge of a $150,000 endowed gift and a $15,000 expendable gift over a period of three years. Funds will enable the Department of Finance and Insurance to strengthen its student-centered focus and enhance its engagement with the banking profession, according to a release.

The newly refreshed classroom space is the most evident reminder of this partnership, Stephen Ferris, the Bryan Dean of the Miller College of Business, said therelease. This named classroom acknowledges the partnership and provides space for regularly scheduled business courses.

The funds will be used to support the culminating experience course, enhancement of existing courses, support for engagement and scholarship, guest speakers and other operational needs of the department.

The new minor prepares students for career in banking management and operations. Faculty cover topics of specific interest in the banking industry, including products and services, pricing, bank structure,regulation and compliance, risk management and understanding business strategy.

As part of the partnership, the IBA will facilitate student internships by coordinating with Indiana banks and potential student interns.
