Gait means how to walking pattern. Gait abnormalities in cerebral palsy are due to many consequences in the muscles joints and bones. Gait correction is must in the cerebaral palsy children. Contracture of the joints, spasticity in the muscles, physically inappropriate action of muscle.

Gait abnormality occurs because of problem in lower extremity. Involvement of the one major joint may affect other joints. It is important to note each and every joint to recognize the problem.

Most of time gait abnormality in cerebaral palsy is with knee. With experience of cerebral palsy cases four main type of the gait is present jump knee, crouch knee, stiff knee and recurvatum knee.

Jump knee is due to tightness in the hamstring muscles, hip adductors and gastrocnemius muscles. It is mostly in diplegic and hemiplegic cases. In this gait pattern child walk in the jumping style. As hamstring was tight so child can not extend his knee, tightness in hip adductors cause adducted legs and tight gastrocnemius causes planter flexed foot.
