Srinagar, Apr 14: Breaking his silence over the supply of spurious drugs to the valley hospitals, chairman of the Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani Sunday said the fresh development was nothing but natural consequence of oppression that Kashmir is facing since 1947. Geelani said he has come to know that dubious drugs worth Rs 50 crore are being supplied to Valley-based hospitals every year, but government doesnt bother to test whether the medicine are fake or real. Talking to Greater Kashmir, the Hurriyat (G) chairman said the revelation about the fact that spurious drugs were being supplied to various hospitals in Kashmir was a serious concern. I believe this is a new policy of genocide. Earlier, people of Kashmir, especially youth used to face interrogation at the torture centers, but now the agencies and their mentors have decided to follow a new way to annihilate Kashmiris. Now, they kill us through fake drugs, he said. Geelani said if this would have been a case in any other state of India, the ruling government there, would have stepped down. But in J&K, the government doesnt bother about the killings of people through sub-standard drugs. He said the government appoints commissions for probing the drug-mafia. But the irony is that those who were involved in supplying spurious drugs are being made heads of such commissions. What will they probe, said Geelani. He said every year, drugs worth crores of rupees are is being supplied to valley hospitals. But unfortunately, there is no testing facility available here. The government doesnt bother to test the drugs that are supplied to hospitals, the Hurriyat chairman said. He said more than 500 children died at G B Pant hospital and the reason was administration of fake drugs to infants. This doesnt happen without a proper planning. Not a single person was booked for murder of infants, said Geelani. He lashed out at the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for shedding crocodile tears in the state assembly. He is doing the same what his father used to do. He knows how to emotionally blackmail the people of Kashmir, Geelani said. Meanwhile, a delegation of relatives of Kashmiri prisoners languishing in Rajasthan prison since past 17 years met Geelani at his Hyderpora residence. The relatives of Latief Ahmed Waza of Shamswari, Farooq Ahmed Khan of Janglaat Mandi, Anantnag, Abdul Gani Koni of Kishtwar, Mirza Nasir Hussain Bhat of Shamswari, Muhammad Ali Bhat of Rainawari and Javaid Ahmed Khan of Khankah-e-Moula, apprised the Hurriyat (G) chairman about the condition of prisoners in Rajasthan prison. According to a Hurriyat (G) press note, the relatives of prisoners told Geelani that these prisoners had already completed 17 years in jail. The relatives told Geelani Sahab that their loved ones were being framed in fake cases to prolong their detention, said a Hurriyat spokesman. He said Geelani Sahab assured them all possible support and expressed sympathy with the relatives of prisoners. Geelani sahib told them that earlier, life-term was to spend 15 or 16 years in prison. But now, there are court direction that life-term means life till death, the Hurriyat spokesman said. He said Geelani has appealed Human Rights organizations that include Amnesty International, to play their role in ensuring the release of Kashmiri prisoners.
