A video posted online of a young girl cutting her mother's hair to help her understand the trauma of breast cancer treatment has attracted thousands of viewers.

Sara Duncan, 44, was diagnosed last September and wanted to help her six-year-old daughter, Lola, cope with her battle against the disease.

In the video, Lola cuts her mother's hair as they laugh and chat - to help the youngster grasp what will happen during chemotherapy.

When her hair is reduced to a close crop, Lola gently uses a razor to shave Ms Duncan's head, before Sara finishes the job herself.

The film ends with a message asking viewers to donate to cancer charities.

It was initially recorded by dad Craig as a family memento, but they decided to post the video on YouTube to raise £100,000 for 10 cancer charities.

Ms Duncan told Sky News: "It's turning what could be a disaster and sad thing into 'Let's make it fun.'

"You agonise over losing your hair because it's such a big part of a person's appearance."

The couple have five other children - Finn, nine, 16-year-old twins Charlie and Rory, Jake, 18, and Oli, 22.

Ms Duncan is currently having chemotherapy treatment. To donate to the family's fund-raising appeal, visit their JustGiving site.
