Scorsone first joined Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers' Private Practice as a recurring player in season three. She was promoted to regular in season four and crossed over to Grey's for two episodes -- in 2010 and 2012 -- where she reunited with her older brother, Derek (Patrick Dempsey).

For her part, Rhimes has been vocal about wanting Scorsone to return to Grey's. "Amelia is Derek's sister, and I'm going to want to see that happen at some point as well," the showrunner told THR in March 2013, two months after Private Practice wrapped its six-season run. (Rhimes also said at the time that she wants to see Kate Walsh return to Grey's to reprise her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery.)
