The lack of closure between Owen and Cristina will come to a head during Thursdays episode of Greys Anatomy.

Ever since Cristina (Sandra Oh) left Grey Sloan Memorial in last yearsseason finale, Owen (Kevin McKidd) has thrown himself into work in a bid to distract himself from the pain of her absence. Every single minute of the day hes struggling, but hes putting a face on to the world, McKidd tells EW from the set of the ABC medical drama.

But Owen will no longer be able to live in denial whena case with Callie (Sara Ramirez) brings out an influx of emotions. His buttons get pushed and hes triggered a little bit, McKidd says. The floodgates open and you find out where hes at. He is doing that Owen thing by taking the energy and loss hes feeling by Cristina being gone and hes trying to use the power of his emotions to try and do some good, but it backfires a little bit.

His passion to do good will initially rub Callie the wrong way after he cajoles her into meeting some veterans, McKidd says. Theyre developing this new and innovative range of fake limbs for amputees. He pitches to Callie that it should be a joint project for the two of them and they should dedicate themselves to wounded warriors. Its very emotional because all Owen wants to do is help these guys who have been in the war zones hes been to.

As for whether opening up is the first step towards moving on, McKidd teases that there might be love on the very distant horizon. It hasnt quite happened yet, but I hear its coming, he says. Hell definitely get involved with somebody at some point. I dont know when it will be yet.

Though there wereearly talk of possibly pairing Owen withAmelia (Caterina Scorsone), McKidd says their characters have very rarely crossed paths until the episode the cast is currently shootingthough their interaction might not be what you imagined. Still, McKidd is open to the idea of exploring Owen and Amelia once his character has had achance to heal. Knowing briefly what her character has been through and what hes been through, it does seem like a good fit, he says. Owen doesnt like things to be easy emotionally or romantically, so it might be a good fit.

Greys Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
