Greys Anatomy Recap: Derek Shepherd Finally Hits Rock Bottom

Tension at Grey Sloan Memorial has escalated this week, and some of our favorite relationships may have been severed including one revolving around McDreamy. But otherswere stronger than ever, and one couple proved they can even withstand jumping out a burning building together! (Seriously.)

The Nov. 13 episode ofGreys Anatomymade it clear that sometimes competition can bring out the worst in people. When Amelia Shepherds (Caterina Scorsone) past came back to haunt herat work, you would think that the one person she could rely on washer brother Derek (Patrick Dempsey). Well, that wasnt the case.

We all know Derek is a huge family man, but the competition with his sister Amelia has been intense. It quickly took a dark turn when Amelia was preparing for a surgery, but was confronted head-on by her dark past.

The patient she was scheduled to operate on just so happened to have a daughter who knew Amelia from Narcotics Anonymous. The daughter didnt keep Amelias secret anonymous when she screamed to the entiretrauma floor thatshe wanted a new doctor. Why? Well, she continued yelling that Amelia was a drug addict who had killed her own boyfriend via overdose.

Thats when Derek stepped in and took over the case, leaving his baby sister embarrassed in front of most the hospital. Soon the entire staff began to whisper about her. Poor Amelia couldnt break away from her ugly past after all.

I thought I could get away from it. That I had a chance.But you never get away from it, she confidedto Dr. Webber.

Derek finally swallowed his pride andadmitted to Amelia that he didnt stand up to Chief Hunt (Kevin McKidd) for her and that now he thinks there will be an emergency board meeting and its his fault which clearly it was. He confesses thathe wasnt thinking about just her career, but abouthimself.

Amelia becomes hysterical and lashes out at Derek,Youre my brotherhow could you do this to me? Derek, realizing that hes been a family turncoat, vows that he would handle the situation and make it better.

Everyone knows Dr. Huntis a great chief, but he also knows Amelias secrets now. He tries to confront her and give her a chance to explain her side of the story, but she shoots him down, leaving him to take matters into his own hands.

Owenthen seeks out Derek and asks if Amelia is really the best person to head the department, but Derek is speechless and cant man up and stick up for Amelia. Ouch Derek.
