Greys Anatomy Season 11 Spoilers: Shonda Rhimes Teases Whats Next For Jackson And April After Baby's Death

Its been a wild season thus far on Greys Anatomy, wouldnt you agree? From Dereks (Patrick Dempsey) alleged cheating scandal to Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) saving Dr. Hermans (Geena Davis) life, Shonda Rhimes, creator of the ABC medical drama, has put viewers through the wringer. But according to the episode 16 synopsis,things are only going to get more intense for the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial hospital -- specifically for April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams.)

In episode 11, the couple was forced to say goodbye to their newborn child, Samuel, who was diagnosed with Type II of osteogenesis imperfecta, a brittle bones disease. The parents held their baby for 43 minutes before little Samuel succumbed to the illness in one of the most heartbreaking deaths weve seen on the ABC series.

The summary for the next installment suggests April and Jackson will struggle to return to their normal lives following the devastating loss. But if you think their search for normality involves bringing another child into the world -- think again. Rhimes dished to E! Online that having more children may not be in the cards for April and Jackson, at least not just yet.

I dont really know if thats what theyre going to be focused on now, the creator teased. They will be focused on other things. If that experience is going to cause them to search elsewhere.

Drew reflected on what's next for the couple in an interview with E! Online in February. The actress explained that although she had no idea if April and Jackson would be trying for another child, she did know that the experience of losing their son would solidify them as a couple.

What I love about the episode that just aired, she said, referring to episode 12, is you really see them coming together and being a team, clinging to each other for dear life as a unit weathering something that is the hardest thing any couple will ever have to go through. I love that the whole episode was about finding hope and finding peace in a tragedy. That is a great and wonderful gift.

Drew then revealed that the death of her child would also shift how her character looks at the world. Moving forward, we see a grittier side of her, she told TVLine. She doesnt care about things that dont matter anymore.
