Thousands of people brave the rain to line the pavements as they waved and cheered as a 100-plus convoy of tractors decked in colourful fairy lights passed by. The popular annual event organised by members of Netherseal Young Farmers Club raises money for charity.

Last night, Tuesday, December 27, more than 100 farm vehicles took to the roads heading through villages such as Linton, Overseal, Coton and Netherseal, as well as further afield to Elford, Croxall and Edingale, to keep the festive season alive decked in a array of Christmas decorations.

This year the club raised more than 1,200 for two chosen charities - namely Cancer Research UK specially chosen by a family who have been involved in the club for many years. as it has helped past and current members, family and friends.

The second charity was Team Alfred. The family and friends of Alfred Chapman, from Swadlincote, are trying to raise more than 60,000 to allow him to undergo intensive physiotherapy treatment in America. Seven-year-old Alfred suffers from quadriplegic cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair.

The farmers' club decided to raise money for Team Alfred after hearing from his mum Emma about how the youngster had loved seeing the tractor convoy in previous years.

A spokesperson for Netherseal YFC wrote on the group's Facebook page: "I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who participated and came along to support the tractor run, a huge amount of effort was put in by everyone in decorating your vehicles and they looked absolutely fantastic.

"We had over 100 vehicles participate and the money raised not only helps the club but also our chosen charities: Cancer Research UK and Team Alfred. I would also like to thank everyone who donated and the individuals who volunteered despite the weather to go around the villages collecting donations. I would then like to thank the Rowe and Busby families for kindly letting us use their farmyards, the event couldn't happen so smoothly without their generous support.

"Finally I would like to thank the Greenfield and Calcott Families for donating all of the food enjoyed afterwards with all funds going to the club and charities with especial thanks to Ben, Ryan and Ed for serving it all."
