A Jackson man accused of shooting four people within ten days, killing one and injuring three others, will be held in jail until his trial.

Keenan Murphy, 21,faces one first-degree murder charge, three attempted first-degree murder charges and two charges of possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony in connection to two shootings.

Jackson City Court Judge Blake Anderson ordered Murphy to be held for the first-degree murder charge and set a $500,000 bond for the remaining charges during Murphy's formal arraignment Monday.

Jackson Police took Murphy into custody Friday after responding to a shooting in a vehicle at the intersection of Fairway Boulevard and Winding Creek Drive in north Jackson.

Thomas Curry, Jr., the driver of the vehicle, died at the scene of a gunshot wound to the head, according to court documents. Vincent Reed, Jr., who was also inside the carwhen the shooting occurred, was shot in the back and hand. Before he was airlifted to Regional One Hospital in Memphis for treatment, Reed told police that Murphy shot himself and Curry before fleeing on foot.

Police apprehended Murphy near the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Old Humboldt Road. Officers recovered a 40-caliber Glock handgun from Murphy's possession.

A Jackson Police Department investigator determined that the shell casings found at the scene of Friday's shooting matched the handgun recovered from Murphy. Casings from another shooting that critically injured two men on Sept. 25 also matched the weapon.

Murphy told police in an interview that he purchased the gun from Joe Ramirez at the Scottish Inn on Sept. 25, according to court documents. He got into a vehicle with Ramirez and another man, Julio Almaraz, and instructed them to drive him to east Jackson.

Police found the vehicle crashed and in flames near Neff Circle and Middleton Street around 6:15 p.m. Almaraz, who was shot in the head, was in the driver's seat. Ramirez was found about two blocks away suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. As of Oct. 4, both men are still in critical condition. Almaraz suffered a severe permanent brain injury.

Murphy was previously arrested in Gibson County in 2016 in connection with a string of car burglaries in Medina. When officers located avehicle that had been used in the burglaries, they recovered two guns that had been stolen from a Chester County home.

As Anderson set his bond in court Monday, Murphy stood and addressed the judge.

"That's not my statement," Murphy said, referring to the interview referenced in his warrants, in which Murphy told police he shot all four individuals. "That's my gun, but that's not my statement."
