NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) A Franklin-based hormone replacement therapy company has been placed under control of a court-appointed lawyer and ordered to stop making misleading claims about the treatment.

Davidson County Circuit Judge Amanda McClendon ordered HRC Medical Centers Inc. and its assets under control of Nashville attorney John McLemore. McLemore is required to make sure the company is operated legally.

Attorney General Bob Cooper said in a news release Friday that a temporary injunction prohibits HRC Medical Centers Inc., HRC Management Midwest LLC, owner Don Hale and former company officer Dan Hale from making claims that the treatments are safe, involve no cancer risk and have no or minimal side effects.

HRC did not immediately return a call to its corporate headquarters Friday seeking comment.

The state sued the company and the Hales in October under the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act.
