Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 10, 2015

Kim Williams, MD, president of the American College of Cardiology and Rush University chief of cardiology, announced today plans for the inaugural, International Cardiovascular Nutrition Summit, set for May 29-31 in Williams hometown of Chicago, IL. The CME accredited conference is produced by Rush University and The Plantrician Project.

"These are exciting times as we find ourselves in the midst of a seismic shift in healthcare," says Williams. "Our current system and approach are unsustainable. Medications to control risk factors, coronary stents and bypass surgery have had a tremendous impact on cardiovascular mortality. But these are temporizing measures, not intended to cure heart disease. Above all else, the answer is dietary lifestyle."

Dr. Williams and conference co-chairman, Scott Stoll, MD, Plantrician Project co-founder and chief medical officer, will be joined on the conference faculty by an impressive line-up, including:

Columbus Batiste, MD, FACC, FSCAI, known as the Healthy Heart Doc and chief of cardiology at Kaiser Permanente Riverside and Moreno Valley Medical Centers

Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., MD, director of the Cardiovascular Prevention and Reversal Program at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute and author of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease

Michael Greger, MD, founding member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, internationally recognized speaker and purveyor of NutritonFacts.org

Joel Kahn, MD, clinical professor of medicine/cardiology at Wayne State School of Medicine and author of Whole Heart Solution

William Li, MD, president, medical director and co-founder of the Angiogenesis Foundation and member of the Clinton Global Initiative

Terry Mason, MD, FACS, CEO of the Cook County Health and Hospital Systems and former commissioner of public health for the city of Chicago
