Professionals from the world of brain injury treatment and rehabilitation are being invited to come together for a networking event being held in Shropshire.

The event is being hosted by law firm, Lanyon Bowdler, and will give people the opportunity to continue the discussions kicked off at a major conference held by the firm about the challenges faced by those surviving brain injuries.

Key issues raised at the conference highlighted the gap between acute care and rehabilitation, with experts saying that advances in medical treatment meant that more people were surviving brain injuries but then struggling to find appropriate support when they left hospital.

The networking forum event will take place from 8.30am to 10am on March 22 at the Marches Growth Hub in Battlefield, Shrewsbury, and is free to attend.

Neil Lorimer, head of Lanyon Bowdlers personal injury team, said the event was a great opportunity to continue the discussion.

He said: This is the second time we have held a networking forum focusing on brain injury and the last one was a great success.

We had representatives from a wide range of professional organisations and charities at the last event, such as The Movement Centre in Oswestry and Headway Shropshire, and we are hoping to have a similar attendance this time.

There was a real appetite from people to hold these networking events on a regular basis because everyone found it very helpful to be able to discuss the issues with like-minded professionals.

The medical advancements in recent years mean that many more people survive catastrophic brain injuries, which is of course very good news, but the increase in patients entering the rehabilitation stage has brought a fresh set of challenges.

That was very much the key issue which came out of our Surviving Brain Injury The Journey conference, and it has continued to be a major talking point since then.

Lanyon Bowdlers specialist personal injury team deal with a variety of brain injury cases and the firm has established a Brain Injury Focus Group to bring together professionals from different legal specialisms to provide support and expertise.

Someone who has suffered a brain injury will need a variety of legal support, Neil added. As well as a clinical negligence case, there may well be other areas where our specialist lawyers can assist, such as dealing with Court of Protection issues and so on.

The Brain Injury Focus Group at Lanyon Bowdler enables us to work much more closely together to ensure our clients get the kind of support and advice they need.
