LAUNDRYMAT DEMOLITION I live in a city where almost every square inch is filled with memories of places that no longer exist. I find myself looking at what replaced something and in my head I see what was taken away. Student Book Store? Campus theater. State office building? Lansing Civic Center. Empty lot? Star Lite Drive In. Rite Aid Pharmacy? Spartan Twin Theaters. Now, I #39;m not stupid. I understand that time goes on and buildings don #39;t last forever, but still, the memory lingers. The building being destroyed here, to make way for yet another Rite Aid Pharmacy, was located in Lansing Michigan USA at the corner of Pennsylvania and Michigan Avenues. The 24 hour laundrymat was complemented by a talor shop and barber shop, as well as several 2nd floor apartments. I can remember the hot chocolate machine that provided a short break whenever I helped my brother deliver the Detroit Free Press during those long ago Michigan winters. Every time I travel past the site, my eyes see a Rite Aid but in my mind I see what no lon ger exists. A Wurlpool Store and a car wash bit the dust, also, but my memories seem to linger on the laudrymat. Kitty corner, a 2 or 3 story building with retail and apartments is now a parking lot, and across the street where WILX TV 10 once had a small studio we now have a parking ramp.
